LIESBETH AND OLIVIA

THE FINAL CHAPTER

Liesbeth is currently enjoying a well-deserved vacation, but since you probably can't go too long without her, we present one of her best posts. It's just like her pieces are with episodes of Sex and the City; you can never get enough of them.

You don't even have to be the most loyal Amayzine reader to know that I'm quite a fan of Olivia Palermo and her husband Johannes Huebl. Search our site for “Olivia Palermo” and the dozens of search results are probably all hysterical pieces by me. When we went to New York Fashion Week for the first time last February, the first thing I thought was: “OMG, I have a chance to see her in real life.” But that didn't happen and what followed was a long, LONG year full of disappointments, and almost-but-not-quite meetings.

“And then, then it came. A photo of her with my Olivia, backstage at Tibi.”

My courage had almost sunk to my shoes, but once I arrived in New York, I got a boost again and felt that this week it was going to happen for me. It just HAD to. On the first day of this NYFW, I went with Jet to Lacoste and Joss and May were backstage at Tibi, as you have already read here. Somewhere in the afternoon, May came in on our New York app with the text “Liesje...” And then, then it came. A photo of her with my Olivia, backstage at Tibi. “This is not funny,” was the only thing I could utter and then ten minutes later, when a photo came through of Joss interviewing her, it all became a bit too much for me and I was unavailable for a while.

As an adult, I got over it quite quickly, but I can tell you: I didn't like it at all. It felt like the whole world runs into her at every turn, but that it will NEVER HAPPEN to me – I said dramatically. The next day we went to DvF, a show where she was also definitely on the guest list. May was there and I texted her if Olivia had been spotted yet, but that was not the case. I was outside taking interviews with a camera and microphone and then, then it happened.

My heart stopped beating.

My heart stopped beating.

“I NEED TO TAKE ACTION NOW.”

Olivia has a knack for maneuvering quickly from door to car, so in a split second I took off my glove and rummaged in my bag for my iPhone. “Olivia, hi I’m so sorry, but could I please take a picture with you?”, I hear myself say and she looks a bit irritated at the big pink microphone in my hand and then says: “Eh yeah sure, but without the mic.” And then up camera up photo and before I knew it, she was already in the car and the moment was gone.

“BUT I HAVE A PHOTO OF ME WITH OLIVIA.”

After a year, it finally worked. Now I can die peacefully and my life is complete; Olivia and I are officially BFFs.
