Looking at hair at the Coiffure Awards
Yesterday I got to attend the Coiffure Award gala. After carefully selecting my Funky Black Tie outfit with matching hair, this this Ted Baker dress looked at me pleadingly on Saturday. “Oh come on?” she exclaimed. Okay, I was convinced. My hair only needed a little touch-up and I was ready to go.
For those unfamiliar: the Coiffure Awards are the Oscars of hairstylist events. Winning a title like Newcomer of the Year or Hairdresser of the Year is hugely significant for the careers of these hair creatives. I only realized this when I saw the various winners in tears on stage. I dutifully wiped away a tear and gained even more respect for these passionate people who live for the hairdressing profession. The evening was hosted by Humberto Tan, who of course has no hair on his charmingly smooth head. “But when I heard that Schwarzkopf was organizing the evening, I was sold,” he joked. Do you get it ;-)? Between the awards, we enjoyed dinner show-like entertainment. During the compilation of all the top hits from the Eurovision Song Contest of the past twenty years, it got wild and so did I. I belted out ‘Hemel en Aarde’ and ‘Viva’ by Dana International (my favorite).
A beauty-related event without Marijke Helwegen doesn’t count. So our Bambi also got to present an award. On her head adorned a large roekoe roekoe hairstyle for her little birds. The beautiful Anna Drijver had a braided hairdo that resembled my hairstyle. You understand, I didn’t mind at all looking like Anna. Sylvana Simons rocked her shaved head incredibly sexy combined with a particularly tight but flattering green dress, which was even glued to her back. But the talk of the town was definitely Kim Feenstra. With her Marilyn Monroe-like appearance, she looked sultrier than ever. Whether it was her own hair or a wig, she left it ambiguous and would reveal it soon, she informed the audience. As far as I’m concerned, the blonde locks are here to stay.
Curiously, I maneuvered between everyone, looking for the latest trends. This is what inspector Coco observed:
Gray, grayer, grayest
You read that right; grandma hair is hot. Preferably with a purple glow, that’s really the coolest.
Pink
Also, pink hair is totally in, especially different shades.
Curly head
Interestingly, I saw almost no straight hair passing by. Natural curls are in. It fits perfectly with the current 70’s trend.
Braids
I find this such a delightful trend because I can’t get enough of braids. From fishtails to a few small braids on the side of your head, it’s all allowed.
Quiff
Tough men become even tougher with a huge quiff. So grab your guy by his boring hair and kick him into an old-school barbershop. Just be aware: these places are often for men only, so you may have to wait patiently on a curb outside.
The hair champion of the evening was Arjan Bevers from Helmond, who was voted Hairdresser of the Year 2015. Yeah duh, when you create such cool hairstyles.
