I asked Claudia if I could take a look in her bag. She probably couldn't choose, because she brought three pieces for me. Or just to make me incredibly jealous, that could be it too. From a bright blue Goyard shopper (which has been on my wishlist for ages) came a burgundy Chanel and, at this moment her favorite, a white piece from Dior. And today we're going to talk about this darling.
But first, how many designer bags does the Straatmans household have?
Phew, about 10, not too bad right? By the way, don't let my in-laws hear this.
And how did you get this little Dior?
Connie Hofmans, sales director at Sanoma, has a garage sale every now and then. She sent me a photo of this bag. Before I knew it, I said “yes!”
So a bargain then?
Well, bargain, I did think about the amount for a moment. My husband was a bit less amused. When I happily told him about my purchase, he reminded me that we are in the middle of an expensive renovation. Oops.
Oh, you always have the excuse that it just comes with your job, right?
Yes and no, especially if you have an international title, it's important to have a good bag. Marie Claire columnist Eva Hoeke once put it this way: “I look at people with designer bags with a strange mix of disdain and envy.” Ha Ha, I couldn't have said it better.
And are you a bit nice to them? I mean the bags, huh.
Some really treat them like a stuffed animal or put them in a safe. I am nice to them, I certainly don't throw them in the corner and they just stand in an open closet. By the way, I don't dare to take the Chanel out in the rain. The cost per wear is therefore quite high.
And what about the contents?
The bottom of my bag is a kind of hummus. Phone, sunglasses, wallet, notebook, mirror, papers, and dozens of lipsticks. A color for every moment of the day. In the past, with my Marc Jacobs bag for example, I was even more chaotic. Thanks to Dior and Chanel, I have become more disciplined.
I am ready for a nice new black one.
I am quite fulfilled now, especially since this is really a summer bag, but in the fall my heart will beat for something else again. Oh, I remain a down-to-earth Achterhoeker. First that renovation please.
