Amayzine

You probably already know Sophia. We might as well say “our” Sophia, because she is a true friend of Amayzine. In the Look of the Day and in the Guilty pleasures she has already appeared. We can't get enough of her, so today we're also taking a look inside her bag.

How many bags do you have?

I have, off the top of my head, about eleven bags of which I lovingly call six my ‘Vuittonnetjes’. I am also a fan of my XXL beige Duffy bag. This bag is especially ideal for traveling or while shopping.

How did you get this beauty?

My favorite bag is my first designer bag that I bought for my 18th birthday. Of course, from Louis Vuitton. That is really my brand when it comes to bags. My mother works for this beautiful brand, so this addiction goes hand in hand. The Boulogne is a classic model and carries nicely. Years ago, I was in my ‘Speedy phase’ (sorry, I can't put it any other way) and never wore the Boulogne again. I even wanted to sell my Boulogne on Marktplaats back then! I am very glad I didn't do that. It is now a bag full of stories and scars; every year it becomes more beautiful.

What does a bag do for a woman?
The bag carries a lot of nonsense with it. I occasionally have the most bizarre things in my bag. I have multiple bags, but I always have a phase where I am most loyal to one model. In that respect, I am very monogamous in my relationships. My favorite goes out the most. Furthermore, I am not really a bag lady who knows exactly which model is the it-bag of the moment. I never talk about that kind of stuff with my girlfriends either. A new bag is not introduced by name and code; it just sits under the table.

Honestly, are you a bit careful with it, do you throw it in a corner or do they all sit on a shelf in a dustbag?
According to my mother, every designer bag deserves its own chair. Sorry, mom. Don't read any further. I just throw all my bags nicely in the corner of my bedroom, on the counter, or on a dirty floor of a pub #sorrynotsorry.

What about the contents? Are you a chaotic person or neatly organized?
The contents of my bag are just as chaotic as I am; until it becomes too much for me and I suddenly turn into an orderly, tidy freak. Now I happened to have one of those moments again where the mess became too much for me, causing half of it to end up in the trash. But you see it; there are still crazy notes and more of that nonsense in there.

What do you always carry in your bag?
I always have my iPhone, wallet, and medication with me. Sometimes also way too much lip gloss. Recently, Jackie, my friend's daughter, had the time of her life while rummaging through my bag and with the makeup collection she found in it.

Do you notice that more doors open with a designer bag?

No, that would be very strange. I don't believe you are taken more seriously with a designer bag; an expensive taste doesn't make you smarter. My laptop bag is also from Louis Vuitton and I often feel ashamed of the designer overkill. When I have a lot of meetings, I often don't take my designer bag(s) with me. Sometimes I notice that as a ‘fashion doll’ in meetings, you quickly find yourself 1-0 behind because of your appearance. Certain types take you less seriously with your bright blue platforms and your tiger print fur and Vuitton bag. Even in job interviews, I often deliberately didn't take my designer bag with me. It also undermines your negotiating position as a student when it comes to your salary.

Do you prefer trendy or classic? And should a bag also be practical?
I love classic and practical. I always find a bit of fuss nice.

And lastly, is there another one on your wishlist? Which one?
I borrowed the Chanel 2.55 from my best friend Mickey for a year. It was lying at the back of her closet, so she preferred that I used it. This was my favorite for a year; I wore nothing else. A beautiful Chanel is therefore high on my wish list. Still, I think the next designer bag I buy will be a simple, black Mulberry.
