NEW YORKISH NAILS
In New York there's almost a nail salon on every corner of the street a nail salon. And really, it gets a lot of use because I haven't caught a lady in New York with ‘undone’ nails. Now, that's not so strange backstage, because there are real nail artists painting the most beautiful creations (more on that later, because they are very special characters), but our Bo Mulder had just done it herself. Herself. Waves, stripes, dots; according to her, it's all doable. Below I've put together a little step-by-step plan for you, on how you can easily and beautifully do it yourself.
Although the above still seems quite difficult to me, it should be doable. Take some angelic patience (read: drying time) and the right tools, then it can actually be a fun little project. For the first time, I recommend keeping the remover handy, but after that, you'll manage. Especially if you also handle the following tips a bit okay.
Apply petroleum jelly around your nails. If you then go a bit overboard with the polish, you can easily wipe it away afterwards. Actually, it's just like coloring your hair.
Before you start polishing, just use the base coat, but also roll the nail polish bottle back and forth. That prevents bubbles. And you really don't want that after you've been fiddling with a stick for an hour to make a perfect wave.
Fan of shapes, but not such a fan of getting started with a satay stick? I get it. Use stickers. HEMA has very cute shapes, and if you stick those on your nails before polishing and then remove them after a lot of drying, you'll have a nice shape left. For the half moons, I use round stickers.
For such a perfectly colored line at the top of your nails, a kind of French Manicure but in color, you can stretch a rubber band over the top of your nail. You give the line of the nail that comes out above it a color.
Let's go, get started. Will you let me know what your creation turned out to be? I'll share mine next week. Can't fall behind in this New York trend.
