I think it's an idiotic idea to attach an age to wearing or not wearing a bikini. I saw a photo of Helen Mirren in a bikini not long ago. I don't know exactly how old she is, but in any case well over 60 and I can tell you she looked amazing. It just goes to show that age is nothing more or less than a state of mind.

Now I hear you thinking: yes, easy for you. She swims in money so that makes it a lot easier to look good. Mwah, a bit true but not entirely. Actually, I want to say that if you're older and you have a bikini body, for God's sake wear a bikini if you feel good in it.

Again: age is just a number and there are bikinis in all kinds of variations. Choosing the right model can make a difference and can prove that you're not really trying too hard to look young.

Look, it's logical that at a certain age you don't need to be hotter than your daughter. So:

– I would skip the models with a thong bottom.

– I advise a bottom that is not too tiny. This season there are many models with a bottom that ends just below your navel: perfect.

At a certain age, your breasts are less firm so choose a bikini top that provides support.

– wear a flowing tunic, kimono, or kaftan when you're going to stroll.

– also fun is the pajama look. Wear a pajama-style jacket loosely open over your bikini and wear a matching short underneath.

- Invest in accessories: a nice beach towel (Hermès), a good basket or bag (Etro) and of course, you definitely make the best fashion statement with a flashy pair of sunglasses.

Finally: as you get older, quality is important. Choose brands that use beautiful materials. My personal favorite is Eres, fortunately now also available in the Netherlands (in Amsterdam in Cornelis Schuytstraat). And be careful with overly extravagant patterns, although Pucci's beachwear is among the classics.
