In a few hours, I will be strutting in my yellow Fendi’s over a red carpet into the Rijksmuseum. Where I will immediately feel deeply ashamed because I have only been to the Rijks for parties and events since the renovation. I promise I will come back soon for The Art. Really.

Tonight, Marie Claire honors people for their contribution to fashion. And I can tell you that this started half a year ago. If you want the top names from the fashion world at your event, you need to be good at chess. And planning. And breathing, because sometimes the invitations went out and we still hadn’t rounded up our main guests. And the expectations from the press are high. Skyscraper high. Marie Claire stands for class and quality, of course.

It starts with the venue. It needs to match the experience. Preferably something classic with a contemporary twist. I have stood three times in the mirror hall of Het Concertgebouw and tonight it has become the Rijksmuseum. Pretty cool, right?

Because I am a guest tonight, I can’t tell you anything about the winners yet. Instead of welcoming the guests in three languages with blinking badges (really, Ivo Niehe was nothing compared to this), I am now comfortably at the linen with a filled glass in my hand whispering a toitoitoi to Claudia Straatmans (the editor-in-chief) and being proud of this beautiful brand from which I have learned so much.
