Amayzine

my guilty pleasures

May we introduce to you: a brand new column. From now on, we will be looking for the guilty pleasures of fun and sociable Amayzine people every week. Bad purchases? Cheesy music? Secret favorite pub? We want to know it all. And to immediately bare my soul, I will kick things off, although it is of course already common knowledge that I have particularly poor taste, but so be it. Here we go.

Shameful track?

Um, actually all the music I love to listen to is shameful. As you know I like to listen to the music from Frozen, but also old R&B and hip hop is on repeat non-stop. I often have my settings such that no one can see what I'm listening to. You know, to keep my outstanding reputation intact and all.

Secret compulsion?

I am a neurotic planner. Not only with my agenda, but also with very silly things. When I bike home from work, I can really think about what and in what order I will do things when I get home. First up the stairs, put down my bag, hang up my coat, greet Disco, make a cup of tea, open my laptop, etc. Sometimes it is really deadly exhausting to worry about all that.

Person you love to hate?

Mariano di Vaio. The most vain man in the world. Admittedly, he is really very handsome and has ridiculously good hair, but he is so aware of it that I actually feel a bit nauseous from him. Nevertheless, I still follow him on Instagram and every photo gives me the shivers, but secretly I still enjoy all those irritations immensely.

Secret Single Behavior?

Haha, do you have a moment? Really, I excel in the secret things I do at home behind closed doors and I have already written about that here in detail.

Worst habit?

Well, I smoke, and I really need to stop that as soon as possible. Furthermore, I have the extremely annoying habit of once I am out and having drinks, I get an intense NEVER GO HOME feeling and against better judgment, I keep going for way too long. “Yes, but it's soooo cozy,” I chirp the whole time and calmly order rounds and drinks for everyone in the hope that they will also stay longer. By the way, I have the same with food. Put a gigantic pizza in front of me and I will eat the whole thing, even if I am stuffed to the brim. “The meal is not over when I’m full, it’s over when I hate myself” is really written on my body.

Favorite bad pub?

I worked for years at Café Nol in the Jordaan in Amsterdam. Hahaaa, you didn't expect that, did you! I really think Nol is a party, but for many it is a typical bad pub. There was also a time when you could still see me stumbling out of the Bubbles at 5:00 AM, and there are plenty of shabby cafes in the Red Light District where I have drunk more beer than is good for me.
