First aid for terraces

I don't know about you, but I spent most of yesterday on a sun-drenched terrace. But hanging out at a table for a whole day is quite a sport and a challenge and requires some preparation. It's hard work, you know, that summer.

Mega scarf

Because yesterday was really lovely, but it got a bit chilly later in the day. A large scarf is ideal then, but you are a real winner if you use my blanket-as-scarf trick because then you drape yourself under a lovely blanket and stay warm until the bitter end.

Extra sweater

Because that scarf might not be enough and besides, there’s always someone who hasn’t been smart enough to bring something warm, and then you are the savior in need.

Flat shoes

Although you shouldn't really bring those but just wear them. Because hanging out all day just goes better in something easy, something you can curl up and fold yourself into a chair with.

Sunglasses

Because duh. Without sunglasses, it’s not a real terrace day. Just make sure you have a pair where your eyes aren't visible so you can shamelessly stare at other people.

Sunscreen

I personally don’t burn easily, but those with a lighter skin tone should not only apply sunscreen at home but also take that tube with them. It often seems like it’s not that bad, but really, you burn super quickly when you sit still in the sun all day.

Change

For me, that’s for a visit to the cigarette machine, but for non-smokers, change is very handy for tipping or throwing a euro in the hat of that nice street musician.

Finally

Don't forget to stand up every now and then. If you sit and drink in the sun for a long time, it can feel like you might topple over the moment you stand up again. And hey, also drink a glass of water in between.
