Amayzine

“Guys, who shall we ask for the TGIF this week?” was heard in the editorial office this week. “Well,” said May, “why don’t we ask Lies?” And so it happened that I am now doing an interview with myself  and I can tell you, that’s a first. “So Lies,” said Lies, “tell us about your week and your weekend?”

Lies, how was your week?

“Well, Lies, how nice of you to ask. My week was mostly very warm. I already talked about that yesterday, and besides that, it was actually very warm. Warm is definitely the theme word. Furthermore, last Monday I had a big deadline for a project I’ve been working on for months and it was an absurd amount of work. Recently, I kept going straight from my work at Amayzine to that project at home, and when I got home Monday night, I really thought “wow, what am I going to do now?” A black hole, really. But now I’m happy again with the empty evenings because despite my whining from yesterday, I’m over the moon that it’s summer.”

Oh yeah, and what do you usually do during those summer evenings?

“Well, for example, on Thursday I went sailing, and last night I went to Zandvoort to eat at Ubuntu.”

That sounds lovely. And when does your weekend start today?

“Well, because it’s so incredibly warm, we decided to all work from home today. In my case, that’s the parental home of someone who has a swimming pool, so I’m doing this interview with myself now looking out over a gigantic green garden with chirping birds and the beach a 10-minute drive away. So for me, the weekend has already started. What’s more, I feel like I’m on vacation and after this deep interview, I’m going to take a dip in the pool.”

And what does the rest of the weekend usually look like?

“Recently, besides my work for Amayzine, I’ve had a few other big jobs, so the weekends were mostly spent behind my laptop, mixed with some terrace visits and a festival. But apart from that, I’m usually a bit hungover on Saturday from drinking on Friday, and I don’t do much else. Sometimes I get completely hooked on a series and don’t leave my couch all weekend because I’m binge-watching. That actually happens quite often.”

And this weekend?

“On Saturday, I have a wedding in Amsterdam in the afternoon, and then I think I’ll go back to this swimming pool. There’s a good chance I’ll actually stick around there for the whole weekend because I don’t have any appointments in the city. And besides, who wants to sit in a sweaty city when you can drink wine in, by, and at the pool, right?”

If practical matters didn’t exist, what would your ideal weekend be like?

“Yeah, I always find this a fun question, thanks for asking me that, Lies. I think I would wake up in Castiglione Della Pescaia, a coastal town in Italy where I’ve been going my whole life and have many cherished memories. In the afternoon, we would board a private jet that takes us to New York in 5 minutes (that’s possible because there are no practical matters) for lunch on the roof of the Soho House. We would hang out a bit in New York and in the evening, we’d take our super jet again, this time to the Seychelles where we would spend the whole Sunday snorkeling, lounging, drinking wine, and doing those kinds of things.”

Okay, that’s it Lies, thanks for this interview!

“You’re welcome, Lies, I really enjoyed doing it.”
