She has just hung her couture collection My Rebellious Princess in the stores, but is already nose-deep in fall/winter 2016. 2016 yes, you read that right. Because lingerie is such a labor-intensive product, as a designer you have to work very far ahead. “It’s difficult, because you have nothing that feeds you, you have to figure out what will be trending in a little over two years. Fortunately, I have never missed the mark, but it remains exciting with every collection.” The weekend is mainly used to find inspiration. What does that look like? Well, like this.
What time do you have your TGIF moment or are you so merged with your work that there is no moment of ‘now just nothing’?
“TGIF doesn't exist at all for me. I always felt that buzz from my business on Friday afternoons, but for myself, it was not an item. I happened to experience it for the first time two weeks ago. It was Friday, February 13, the day before Valentine's Day and because I am now single, a friend of mine said: “We're going to do something fun.” And I actually had a good time. We hopped from tent to tent and I only got home at 06:00. I saw the fun and the happinessiand I completely understood it.”
And was there something special in the glass?
“Normally, I don’t drink. I come from a very sociable family where a drink is always served, but I don’t need it to get into a different state. Two or three times a year I find that alcohol adds something and then I drink too. Something strong. Whisky, vodka, that kind of thing..”
You have a daughter, Zilver, is your weekend for her?
“She is already sixteen, so she has quite her own agenda. She is with me every other weekend and usually I look forward to it so much that I have planned all sorts of things. First we do this, then to that museum, then lunch there… She finds it terrible. Ultimately, I do her the greatest favor if I am on standby and available when she wants me. So I try to do that obediently.” Is there any sports on the weekend?”
“Certainly, I am really a sports person. But on the weekend it looks different. Where I
“box or lift weights during the week, I find it most enjoyable to go running on the weekend. Just grab those two bridges, then you have the most beautiful experience and still just cover ten kilometers. After that, into the sauna (I have one at home) and my day is perfect.” Where do you like to eat? ”Rotterdam has a lot of nice places. Right now, CEO is my favorite. CEO stands for côte de boeuf, entrecote, and ossenhaas. The meat is really stunningly good, it’s from Mario Ridder, the man who cooked together two stars as the chef of”
Zwetheul, so you know it’s good. Furthermore, the concept is very nice
“good meat, fries, and salad The you feel like you’re in New York when you’re sitting there. Furthermore, I like to go to the cocktail bar in the Hilton on Sunday afternoons with friends or with my daughter. She is now at the age for that.”; Back to that inspiration. What do you feed yourself with?. E“A lot of movies, I’m going to see Birdman tonight,, and further”
art,
“museums and the Kunsthal or the Dutch Dance Theater, but classical music is also a very big inspiration for me., I can listen to a piece for hours because you really have to conquer certain works. For example, I had that with Firebird and Le Sacre du Printemps by, the BoStravinsky.I found it beautiful. but I felt that I would love the music more if I understood it better. So I started reading the scores (I can do that since my participation in the programMaestro) and there PI am now studying reading the scores, by deepening. what was happening in that, time, came het programma Maestro) en daar studeer ik nu op. Due to de partituren te lezen, door mete verdiepen in wat er speelde in die tijd, kwam I found out that Stravinsky was friends with Coco Chanel and through Coco I came back to her friendship with the artist Misia Sert. Those women had a relationship and the story goes that Coco even went on honeymoon when Misia married her husband. All stories that feed.”
Marlies, are you sleeping well?
“Well, not much. I was a bad sleeper as a child and I still am. Actually, I'm quite happy about that, because I can do a lot. Especially at night when the rest of the world is sleeping and I'm not you will definitely be extremely happy with. disturbed. But I can also happily spend a day in my bathrobe. And no, don't worry. They are nice bathrobes, I designed them myself.”
Because how many bathrobes and bras do you have?
“I have a walk-in closet just for my swimwear. My bras hang in a double row along the length of that closet. By color; with shoes in that color and clothes in that color. And I vary every day with my sets. What do I wear in bed? Nothing, you should be naked there.”
Do you have a tip for us women and our breasts?
“It's important to know that your breasts change. After your forties, for example, your milk glands decrease and the fatty tissue increases. That's why many women have larger breasts as they get older. Then you need a different bra. So do go to the lingerie store for good advice.”
I often hear that we wash our bras far too little.
“Mine you can just throw in the machine, you know. At thirty degrees, just put it in a bag and don't put it in the dryer. You have better things to do than wash all those bras by hand, right?”
Last question. Is there an alarm on Monday or is that not necessary for you?
“Yes, there is, at 07:00. And then I immediately start with my strength training and a bowl of oatmeal and fruit that is so big that everyone who sees it, has to laugh really hard. Then I'm even more excited for the week.”
