It is a phenomenon whose cause I have not fully grasped yet, but people in the same field tend to say the same thing. Of course, there are things like jargon, but take the fashion girls for example. They manage to do it continuously with the most meaningless clichés to sprinkle. And yes, I have probably been guilty of that myself at some point. In random order, a selection of the sentences you have definitely heard ten thousand times and that are often simply not true.

“I love to combine more expensive designer pieces with Zara and H&M.”

Uh, yeah duh? I also wear a combination of more expensive pieces and Zara and H&M. But that's not because I love it so much, or make a conscious choice in it, but simply because I don't have the budget to dress myself from head to toe in the Net-A-Porter.com collection .

I started my blog because I wanted a place where I could express my inspiration.”

Seriously, every blogger says this and it probably is true, but can't a fun alternative be thought of?

“You should never start a blog because you want free stuff.”

No, it shouldn't be your main reason, but let's not kid ourselves; goodies and freebies are really the cherries on top and a great secondary benefit. Keep in mind that 98% of bloggers or editors work as freelancers and earn not a single cent in the first years, and even after that, they are never completely sure of their income. I would say; embrace the free stuff you like because you have apparently worked hard and done something good. Give the rest to friends and don't feel guilty about it. Oh, and don't act pretentious and say that you don't care at all. It's just not true.

“No, I really never Google myself.”

This is also not true. Everyone Googles themselves, fashion girl or not. And you can bet that during fashion weeks, there is extensive searching for all the street style photos that have been taken. This brings me to the next point.

“I don't do it for the photographers.”

Haha, biggest lie in the book and such a cliché because everyone claims this. To the outside world, that is. But many (big) bloggers also go to the shows without an invitation to “do street style” and do nothing else but parade in their best outfit for the lenses. Look, that's totally fine and it does yield a lot, but don't pretend like you don't care.

“I just pay a lot of attention to my diet and exercise regularly. And I'm lucky that I can eat whatever I want.”

This is not only reserved for fashion girls, by the way, but fashion girls are just extremely concerned with their appearance. They will all say that they eat soooo normally and are just healthy, but that's complete nonsense. Many eat hardly anything at all and all those nice donuts and macarons that you are bombarded with on Instagram? They go untouched back into the box. An insider once told me that in the lead-up to Coachella many bloggers start with “the Coachella diet” which means: eating nothing at all. The only one who is very honest about this is Shea Marie from Peace Love Shea, who always posts on Instagram that she trains like crazy and really only eats green stuff.
