I am in New York. With a mega jetlag. I'm already an early bird, so I'm wide awake next to my bed at 5 am, while Liesbeth is still peacefully sleeping for a couple more hours. I have time to discover the nearest gym. A bit of back and forth on a crossfit machine, then you're actually quite a nerd, because. the real New Yorkers hang out on machines that stretch your whole body or do spinning classes in the dark by candlelight. Are you happening to go to The Big Apple soon? If you want to be cool, you do this. Or in the Netherlands, that works too. You're even cooler.Pilates but on a machine.
Every model
has probably laid on one of those things. It's a machine where you mainly lie on your back and then push weights away with your feet or pull with your arms on an elastic band. And you often have exercises where your body is completely stretched out. It has something relaxing about it, because it all happens with very slow movements, but you can bet you'll end up sweaty and won't be able to walk the next day from the muscle pain. I'm going to try this out and come back with photos, then you'll have a better idea of it. On almost every corner of the street in New York, you'll find this gym. It's very simple. A spinning class (that's cycling really hard) in the dark to incredibly upbeat music. It's not pitch dark, because there's candlelight on the ground and that's quite soothing. And it's also nice that you can't see everyone and especially that the other person can't see your sweaty forehead. Because that happens. You go all out. Every instructor has their own playlist that you can check out beforehand, and I prefer to sign up with someone who plays R&B music, because then I go the hardest.
SoulCycle
On the bike, you need special shoes that you can click into your pedal, but you can just rent those there, and if you go really early, the chance of spotting a celebrity is very high. Especially in Soho and the Meatpacking District.
A lap around Central Park.
Well, a lap is quite long because then you've almost run a marathon, I believe, but jogging in Central Park might just be the most fun. The park is gigantic, but there are plenty of runner roads.
, use a bench for some exercises after the run. Here, If you come back alive, you're lucky. I believe it guarantees you burn more than a thousand calories in an hour, and the celebrity factor is also extremely high. Barry himself says it's 'the best workout in the world', so I'm going to do my absolute best to take a class with him, because I have to experience this.
