The spectacle of

Nikkie Plessen

Yesterday was a good day for Nikkie Plessen. It started with the news that she is getting a column (or blog or whatever) on Vogue.nl and Nikkie ended it with a spectacle in the Concertgebouw.

Because after Carré and The Harbour Club, now the Concertgebouw was the venue to be. And I’m not talking about the small Spiegelzaal at the back, no, you don’t know Nikkie Plessen yet. It had to be the main hall. And a seated dinner, indeed. How that was supposed to work with the rows of chairs that are in the hall, you ask? No problem, they were smoothly removed for the occasion.

We were expected at half past seven. Who? All the people who sell Nikkie, the press, and the well-dressed fellow humans. And they were all there. Fred van Leer, Anouk Smulders, Cécile Narinx, Hilmar Mulder, Lieke and Jetteke van Lexmond, my table friend Winonah de Jong, and all the top stylists.

I bow deeply for the seaters, the girls at the entrance who effortlessly guided 450 people to their seats. They must have spent a few afternoons with Nikkie's face book on their laps memorizing all the important types.

It started with a small maestro performance by Nikkie herself who accompanied the orchestra. Then the hostess gave the stage to the people who ‘really can it’. Do came to sing for a bit. That voice... I understand witch Ursula who wanted to buy the voice of Ariel the little mermaid. I would almost give up my fresh walk-in closet to be able to sing for a day like Do.

After a first performance of clothing, worn by Cicely Telman and Tamara Weijenberg (you know, the one who once won Holland's Next Topmodel) we got the main course and... Waylon.

Although it seemed like Waylon himself had also nibbled a bit too much of the divine food from the chef of The Harbour Club, he gave a performance that even made our snobby fashion girls get up from their seats, move their hips, and raise their hands in the air.

You can say anything about Waylon (that he could take another stylist for example) but he is truly the biggest artist in the country. What a voice, what energy, and what a musician. I bow. The second collection of clothing was a casual variant that I quite liked. Nice denims in a trouser model (which is totally 2015), ponchos in blue and white that will do just fine on an early autumn evening on the beach of St. Tropez, and cozy funfur jackets.

The whole spectacle was rounded off with a performance by Leona Philippo and a third collection of clothing. I heard someone say that Vogue received some criticism for appointing Nikkie as a columnist because she makes wearable, commercial clothing and not High Fashion which Vogue stands for. But hey, Vogue also stands for Grand and Captivating and that certainly applies to Nikkie.
