AND WE ARE OFF
Amsterdam Fashion Week has really started now
There are those days when I find my job even more enjoyable than usual. Yesterday for example. Before the opening show of Avelon was about to begin, I was asked to guide sixty women backstage around.
I did that together with Holly, an incredibly nice girl who has been working at Fashion Week for five years and could give me all sorts of fun inside information. For example, that there are 450 models participating in this fashion week and that each model walks an average of 50 kilometers on the catwalk.
It seemed as if the women who got to join us were chosen based on their bags because Céline, Vuitton, Chanel, there was quite a feast passing by. After our tour, they received professional makeup and a trendwatch lecture from Leco van Zadelhoff.
I also got a little makeup from Angelique Woudenberg, one of the sweetest makeup artists out there, and a signed book from Leco. Then Jetje picked me up and we dove into the front row where a special cushion was even brought for us.
Fashion Week started with an ode to Frans Molenaar. They did it beautifully. And Avelon started modestly with a video that designer Erik Frenken captured. That was a perfect bridge. Now it could go wild. I had been looking forward to the Avelon show because it is my favorite (he won the Prix de la Mode when I was editor-in-chief of Marie Claire) and I am proud that this label exchanged Paris for Amsterdam as a show location.
I understood that the management of Fashion Week has put a lot of energy into that, but hats off. Now you want to know what I thought of the collection? Meraviglioso. Just take a look for yourself.
