THINGS THAT MAKE-UP ARTISTS REALLY SHUDDER
– This is what we do wrong as Dutch women –
Every now and then I come across an incredibly good a makeup artist make-up artist whose every word I hang on with enthusiasm and interest. Blair Patterson from Estée Lauder whispered the tips & tricks to me, Wim Thompson from Dior knows everything about the flawless look and with Pat McGrath you can talk endlessly. They also whispered some tips and tricks to me last year ‘for the Dutchies’. So read and learn. It can only get more fun and it just makes our country a little bit more beautiful.
Foundation
In the Netherlands, we are known for wanting to go out looking flawless. We do, but often with a layer of foundation on our face. Now there are really the most beautiful foundations that are very light and look very fresh, and I can honestly say that there are very few that don't have that. Yet Dutch women often completely miss the mark when it comes to foundation. The colors don't match, they don't blend well, it's also used under the eyes or it's way too thick. Really, foundation is still quite an art and we haven't quite mastered that yet.
Eyebrow
Eyebrows MAKE the face, they are really the frame. But somehow the average Dutch woman doesn't really seem to know that yet. Where in America the brow bar is a must every weekend, we still can't find the tweezers here. Or we can find them, but then we use them too enthusiastically. The eyebrow is something we can really pay a lot more attention to.
Less is less and
more is too much
When we Dutchies have a party, we often want to go all out with our make-up. So a nice eye, a nicely colored lip, and some on the cheeks. However, somehow we always end up doing too much. We go for both the fully colored eye and the pink lips and a heavy brow and let's not forget the heavily applied blush. The tip from the make-up artists; choose one and keep everything else subtle. It's much prettier and much more balanced.
Eyelashes
Mascara; it’s also tricky. But clumps are just not done (even if it's sometimes a trend), generally, it's just neat layers on top of each other.
Lips
Lip liners in other colors are no-goes. By the way, they have never been a go.
Blush
Keep it a bit fresh and matching your skin tone. Of course, we all want a fresh blush on our cheeks, but we also want it to look as natural as possible. We Dutch women prefer to look like we've just stepped off our bike, but to achieve that effect we overdo it and have used the powder brush a bit too enthusiastically. So keep it a bit simple.
