THIS IS HOW I SURVIVE AIRPLANE FOOD

If you are reading this, I am on the plane to New York. I am always that annoying person who pulls out her own lunchbox when airplane food is served. I just can't handle it. Often, I still dream of making a project out of it: TASTY airplane food. I mean, it can't be that hard, right? The little white roll with a bit of butter and a piece of cheese made from some kind of plastic goes down with a sigh and a grunt. I also don't feel happy about that slop with chicken where you don't know if it's real chicken or leftovers from the animal and the overcooked pasta that has an unbelievable amount of white sauce on it that tastes like nothing. Yeah, it's a bit of a whine, but I don't do that anymore on the plane because I have my own stuff with me. This is what I take and how I prepare myself:

It's definitely wise to drink half a liter of coconut water before you embark on a long journey in the air. Up there, you dry out like crazy, and coconut water hydrates like mad. It seriously helps with jet lag.

Crackers

You can find those really tasty spelt crackers with lots of seeds and nuts at Marqt or Ekoplaza or something. They also have a version with Emmental cheese if you're in the mood for that. I usually take a whole pack with me, as they are also nice without toppings.

Avocado

This can just go through customs and is really tasty and nutritious (for on your cracker, for example). Just make sure to take the fruit in a Tupperware container, it's not nice if that thing gets squished in your bag. Messy.

Nuts

Salted or unsalted, whatever you feel like. Also delicious with a glass of wine (which I will order).

Slice of cake

Okay, you might think I'm a loser, but if I have some time, I bake a cake the day before and take a few slices with me for the journey. All healthy, right? You understand. This delicious coconut-almond cake, for example.

Healthy bar

I always pack a few green bars or other healthy bars in my bag. Handy for in between and long-lasting.

You also have that on the plane, but often you get that very strong, almost black tea. I don't find that very pleasant. Bring your own bags and ask for some hot water. Oh well, you have to make a bit of a party out of it, right?

Usually, when you order tea on the plane, you get some terrible brewed simple Earl Grey. You can see it coming: I'm not a fan, so I always have my own tea bags with me.

That was it, it might be a bit of a task and you might find it all exaggerated, but this makes me incredibly happy. Also important.
