Sign the guestbook
this is how you do it
The chances are quite high that you have booked something this weekend that boutique hotel in Nice or that bed & breakfast in Brighton that you have wanted to go to for so long. I wish you a book in the sun, a glass of Pouilly Fumé in your hand, and a fresh burrata on your plate.. To make sure you wrap everything up stylishly, I’ll whisper the guestbook etiquette to you.
If the stay unexpectedly disappoints, skip the guestbook. It’s not very nice to immortalize your negative comment on these pages, right?.
Be Nice
Write nicely
What you write also says something about you. I once experienced that an old friend called us because she was staying at the same bed & breakfast in a tiny village along the Garden Route in South Africa. She had seen our response in the guestbook, and I was glad I had made an effort with a few nice sentences. You are being read, and it’s nice if that is a bit pleasant
Hold back
Watch your children.
Maybe you think it’s very clever that they
can write their name (it is clever) and can draw little figures with fingers, but the guestbook is not the place for that. It looked nice, and it will continue to look nice. Understood? Leave some space
No matter how little space there is, always leave a bit of white for the guest after you. Maybe it’s Beyoncé. You certainly don’t want to deny your host that.
