This is how you survive dry January
After such a drink-soakedmonth like December, a person craves a bit of balance both physically and mentally. With the greatest ease, the bottles were opened in the past weeks, but can we also just as easily close them again? A dry January is an increasingly popular way to start the new year clear and fresh éto prove to yourself and the world that you can really do it, to leave those drinks . Yet we know better than anyone that such a dry month can be quite challenging. Here are five tips and tricks on how to successfully get through an alcohol-free January.
1. Find a partner in crime
No, it’s not too late yet. Monday marks the return to real life, so why not make it your alcohol-free month? Good story, right? Find a friend, colleague, or partner willing to join you this month so you at least have éa fellow companion and can keep motivating each other.
2. Count the calories
For fun, calculate how many calories you’re skipping in January. If there wasn’t a day in December without a drink, then that’s at least 2500 calories you won’t be consuming this month. Add a few hearty dinners and drinks to that, and that’s another 750 to 1250 calories per evening that won’t be getting to you.
3. Plan!
Don’t leave anything to chance this month, but plan your social life wisely. Turn drinks and dinners into as many coffee and lunch appointments as possible and agree to go ‘exercise in the morning instead of drinking gin & tonics at the pub.
4. Be the designated driver
Can’t avoid attending some parties and events? Then take it upon yourself to be the designated driver and drive the inebriated group home safely. This way, you’ll be forced to behave that evening and you’ll also build up credits for the future when you feel like having a drink yourself.
5. Treat yourself
A whole month without drinking is no small feat. It’s likely to be a bit tough or just very boring. Therefore, set something nice for yourself to look forward to if you manage to complete this challenge successfully. That slightly too expensive scented candle, that amazing bag, or a fantastic bottle of course.
