THE RICHEST FASHION DESIGNERS
As a designer, it is absolutely not easy to keep your head above water these days, but there are a number of fashion designers who with their brilliant creativity managed to create a multi-million dollar business.
Giorgio Armani
With an estimated net worth of 7.6 billion, Giorgo Armani is the richest fashion designer in the world. His power suits for men became immensely popular in the 1980s due to Miami Vice and the movie American Gigolo and he built a huge loyal following among Hollywood stars. Armani now goes much further than just clothing. There is a home collection, books are published, and there are Armani hotels and restaurants.
Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren is the perfect example of the American dream. Born a dime as Ralph Rueben Lifshitz in the Bronx, he took a huge risk by taking a loan of $50,000 for his tie collection. When that went well, he expanded the Polo label with suits and casual wear and kept building until the classic American chic empire that it is now. His personal fortune is currently estimated at 7 billion euros.
Miuccia Prada
Miuccia Prada took over her family's luxury goods factory in the late 1970s and with the help of her husband turned it into the fashion house it is today. She is known for her perfectionism and eye for detail and is now worth around 4 billion euros.
Dolce & Gabbana
Despite (or thanks to) their alleged tax fraud, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce are today good for around 1.5 billion euros each and are among the richest people in Italy.
Valentino Garavani
Now retired, but still one of the most respected Italian designers of our time. Both in popularity and in sound currency, because mister Valentino is good for 1 billion euros.
