As you probably know by now, we have quite a fetish for eyebrows. So we dutifully and expertly have them waxed at the necessary brow bars. We also dare to admit that we are not averse to a little powder or pencil to give things a bit of extra color and to shape them better. The perfect brow defines the look of your face and is therefore absolutely necessary.
I personally don’t leave the house without coloring and shaping my eyebrows. I just feel completely bare. And after some interviews for the Beauty Q&A I found out that this is also just a no-go for many makeup artists. Where I used to not have any powder or pencil in my toiletry bag, it is now full of it. And this one from Smashbox could very well be a new addition.
What is it?
It’s a new brow pencil from Smashbox. You should know that all Smashbox products are made with a specific idea in mind. The idea of looking perfect in photos under the incredibly harsh conditions of hot lights, warm studios, and sweating people. Another major requirement is that it stays neatly in place all day without smudging or wiping off.
What does it promise?
Well, just apply the above points to the brow pencil and you get a pencil that is easy to apply, but at the same time also water-, moisture-, and sweat-resistant. So they do their job under high temperatures and hectic schedules. Sounds like music to the ears.
The addiction
Eyebrow addiction started for me quite some time ago, but Will Malherbe, makeup artist from Smashbox, only fueled that addiction. He managed to press this pencil into my hands. It’s a very thin pencil that allows you to easily fake hairs. You can just draw them where you see ‘bald’ spots. This really works. It has a gel-like structure that makes you think it fades away, but it stays well on the skin, providing a long-lasting result. From August 15, the collection has been slightly expanded with four matte pencils, four gloss sticks, and two highlight sticks. Everything to draw the perfect eyebrow. Until then, you can continue to use this pencil, as it is essential tool, and afterwards you can only expand your expertise with all those other nice products.
Tips and tricks
Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Makeup Artist, has some other tips for the brows:
– Always lightly touch up your eyebrows when you start with your makeup as a starting point for your look. Then gradually build it up for an architectural look or keep it more natural.
– Make sure your eyebrows match the rest of your makeup and do not contrast with the rest of your face. Never create a striking eyebrow if you are going for a dramatic smoky eyeshadow.
– Your eyebrows should be seen in the evening. Then you can definitely use a glossy stick for a healthy shine that adds more depth.
