Amayzine

Amayzine was at Victoria Beckham.

AND IT WENT LIKE THIS.

Some find it very lame to say, but we are not ashamed of it at all; for the show of Victoria Beckham, probably the most exclusive show of NYFW and where only the most important people are invited, we had no ticket. But to film, photograph, and interview people outside the door, you don't need an invite, so that was our plan. Together with May and cameraman Sacha, we braved the coldest day so far and arrived at the venue at 09:15 where the show was set to start at 10:00.

That venue was next to Cipriani, a world-famous Italian restaurant that has also been the setting in a Sex and the City. episode. As mentioned, it is the coldest day so far, with -8 on the thermometer and -20 as the feels-like temperature thanks to a bone-chilling wind. The arrival of hip and famous people is still a bit meager, so we decide to go inside Cipriani for a warm cup of tea, and then a little later to do some interviews with the Amayzine microphone.

“uhm, are we suddenly inside the show of Victoria Beckham? Really?”

A very nice doorman opens the big heavy door and once inside, it turns out not to be Cipriani at all, but the show venue. We see the benches set up and the catwalk laid out, PR girls dressed in black running around everywhere, frantically shouting into their earpieces, and May and I look at each other and think: “uhm, are we suddenly inside the show of Victoria Beckham? Really?” And then our love for fashion comes around the corner and we decide that since we are inside, we might as well stay inside. All the big fashion people have crashed shows at the beginning of their careers, not because you are an impolite jerk, but because you want to see the clothes up close and taste the sensation of a show. And to be fair, Amayzine, with its one and a half years, is still a rookie, so we decide to act like we belong here so totally .

The nerves are hitting us pretty hard because it will still take an hour before the show starts and there is still an hour in which the PR people can spot us and drag us out of the building by our hair. We put on our most arrogant and bored look (fashion people are often quite blasé and have so totally seen it all) and avoid the gazes of the PR girls.

my heart is almost bursting out of my body from the tension

Meanwhile, Anna Wintour with daughter Bee, buyer Justin O’Shea, Grace Coddington, Rachel Zoe and Tonne Goodman come in, along with many more beautiful and famous fashion people. So we are inside, but we still have one hurdle to overcome: the girls from seating. They bring the guests to their seats, a seat that we do not have. We watch how that all goes and then decide to throw ourselves in. “Lies, we need to sit NOW because otherwise my knees will start shaking,’ says May, and the nerves are giving me spots on my neck as well. May pretends to be on the phone (because that looks so arrogantly nice) and I stare off into the distance, and we walk right past the strict PR girls and take a seat somewhere in the back row. But since there are only three rows in total, that is still quite close to the catwalk.

We are seated. In someone else's spot. It turns out we are sitting in the buyers' section right behind Justin O’Shea from Mytheresa.com and my heart is almost bursting out of my body from the tension. May wants to text Jet and Joss that we are at the show, but I only allow that once the first model is walking because otherwise, it might still go wrong. And then, the lights go out, the music starts, and indeed the first model comes onto the runway. And we are there.

Afterwards, we do some more interviews, but more importantly: we were there. Call me a toddler, call me a cheater, I found it SO exciting and SO fun. This really makes me want more. As a little treat, we put together this video, from us to you, because this way you are a bit there too. Enjoy!
