WHAT TO EAT

in this warm weather

In the summer we eat differently than in winter. At least, I don't want to think about a stew, sauerkraut, or a beef stew right now. Especially not when you feel so sweaty and sticky; I'd rather eat something light. But it also has to be nutritious. A lot of hassle, you think? Not at all, because here I am to give you some inspiration for what is nice to eat when it's bloody hot.

It's good to drink plenty of water. Coconut water(if you like that) is incredibly hydrating, so I can highly recommend it during sports.

Alcohol dehydrates the body, so it's not really a thirst quencher. I understand that when it's warm you drink wine much faster and more, but also make sure to have a glass of water alongside it. Moreover, many people have less appetite in the heat. Alcohol on an empty stomach hits three times harder than when you've eaten well. You can quickly feel lightheaded or get a headache. Just so you know.

When it's warm, you need moisture. Choose vegetables and fruits that contain a lot of water. Watermelon, for example. I think it's a fantastic treat and this fruit consists of 92% water, so it's also thirst-quenching. For the evening, you can mix it with feta cheese, a bit of olive oil, some pepper and salt, and you have a super salad for dinner. Also think of cucumber, lettuce, tomato, celery, pineapple, strawberries, peach, and nectarines.

This week I made a really delicious Vietnamese salad. Look here for the recipe. It's a super light meal, but very nutritious. A simple salad alone is not enough for me. With a handful of light glass noodles added, it's very filling.

Make your own ice pops. Puree fruits, a little water, and for those who like it, some (agave) syrup. Pour the juice into ice molds and put it in the freezer for a few hours.

In warm weather, you often crave cold food, but also try some spicy dishes. In warm countries, they often eat spicy food. Spicy food speeds up your blood circulation and makes you sweat more. Sweating cools your body down.

I am also always a big fan of cold soups. Gazpacho, for example. So incredibly easy to make. This is a very tasty recipe. From Jamie, of course.
