Women and the male odor
When I'm at home, I prefer to wear a worn shirt of the man of the house, and when he comes back from sports then sniff I secretly sniff a few times at his sweat-soaked shirt. Thinking that I must be a bit odd for this strange habit, I'm just happy to have realized that there is a reason for it all. I'm quite pleased.
Pheromones
How disgusting I find myself (smelling) after exercising, is how much I can enjoy the fresh sweat of my boyfriend. Strange, right? This is because the sweat glands release so-called ‘pheromones’. A kind of seductive substance that sends a direct signal to the brain. To the ‘amygdalae’ to be precise. This is an almond-shaped part of the brain that links information to, in this case, positive, emotions. If you find a scent pleasant, you can become incredibly excited by it without even realizing it. It is even the case that men with a lot of testosterone (a real alpha male, you know) also release more pheromones.
But it goes even further than excitement. If we find each other’s scent pleasant, this can be decisive for starting a relationship or not. Because unconsciously, we select someone based on their potential to be a good dad or mom.
Symmetry
Another funny thing. Scientists have shown that when a man symmetrically built, he gives off a more attractive scent for many women. In a study by an American anthropologist, women were asked to smell T-shirts from different men. It turned out that the women preferred the shirts of men with a lot of symmetry in their faces. I tested this with my own partner and lo and behold, that guy has two incredibly identical halves.
What a funny lady Mother Nature is, huh?
