4 x why cold showers are good for you
I need a shower in the morning to wake up, but hell no I'm going to turn it all the way to freezing cold. I'd rather have it super hot and then stay under it as long as possible. If I'm still not awake, I sometimes splash cold water on my face. But I think I'm doing it all wrong, because an ice-cold shower is incredibly healthy for you in many ways. And here's why:
- You wake up instantly. It gives you a boost and thus also energy.
- If you often finish your shower with cold water, your body gets used to different temperatures, which is good for your immune system. This way, you also have to get used to it less intensely when it gets very cold in winter or very warm in summer.
- By showering cold, your blood vessels constrict. This raises your blood pressure and makes your blood pump ‘stronger’ through your body. Is the cold shower over? Then your blood pressure drops again, but circulation remains better. And... that also helps you get rid of any cellulite .
- Cold water is also very good for your skin. It will become more radiant and tighter. Warm water dries out your skin quickly.
