5 TIPS FOR YOUR DREAM TRIP IN 2017
So, you want to start checking off some bucket list stuff in the new year? Fine, I'll join you, okay? Let's start with when to actually book that trip the cheapest is. Expedia researched (yes, I know, I don't have all the wisdom myself, people) and what turns out? The prices of plane tickets have also dropped again last year and are now at their lowest point since 2013. That should definitely be taken advantage of, you understand.
And so here are 5 tips to travel as cheaply, pleasantly, and practically as possible next year:
Tip 1: book in January
If you're departing from a European airport, January is the best month to book (except if you're flying to the US, then September is the best month to book, so you know). Because the earlier you book, the better. For travel within Europe, it's recommended to book more than 85 days in advance, from Europe to the US 180 days, and from Europe to Asia 171 days.
Tip 2: save, save, save
No, not the most fun part. I get it. But really, set aside a fixed amount each month (even better, set it up automatically) and you'll be incredibly happy when you're traveling. Long trips can be expensive. And there's nothing worse than watching your pennies on vacation.
“And hello, the anticipation is the best part, you know that right?”
Tip 3: book on Sunday
Don't ask me why. But Sunday is just your new best friend, okay? If you're flying to the US, booking on Sunday can save you 22 percent, and for Asia, there's a saving of 13 percent. By the way, Friday turns out to be the absolute worst day worldwide to book a trip.
Tip 4: choose a different destination
Do something crazy, choose something different. A good culture shock is needed from time to time. The rising stars of the moment? China and India for example. But also: Mexico, Cuba and Vietnam have had to significantly increase flight traffic due to the demand for tickets. Just like Dubai, by the way.
Tip 5: don't forget the anticipation
Booked? I'm proud of you. Now it's time to indulge yourself in everything you can find about your destination. Websites, travel books, movies, documentaries, blogs; you name it. Especially for a long trip, good preparation is not a luxury. And hello, the anticipation is the best part, you know that right? By the way, I do expect a postcard (Pilotenstraat 23), you understand.
