6 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT NOTTING HILL
Because Love Actually will never be the same again (no idea what I'm talking about? Check this just a moment), it's time to focus on another British masterpiece. Namely Notting Hill. ‘I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy asking him to love her.’ Sigh. Ever since, I've been weekly wandering in a bookstore hoping to meet the man of my dreams. So far, no luck. Anyway, here are some Notting Hill facts you probably didn't know:
1. Julia Roberts didn't really want to watch this movie at first. She had received a short synopsis of what the story would be about and thought it was rubbish, she has admitted. She was only sold when she read the script.
2. That famous blue door belonged to Richard Curtis, the screenwriter of the film. The blue door became so famous after the film that the owners decided to paint it black after Richard, because they were fed up with all the fans who kept coming by. Nowadays, it's just blue again, you know. You need to be at 280 Westbourne Park Road if you want to stop by.
3. Hugh Grant found it difficult to kiss Julia. Really. I think there would be plenty of men lining up for a kiss from Julia, but Hugh found it quite difficult. Why? Well, he thought her mouth was so big. “I was aware of a faint echo as I was kissing her.” Not exactly a compliment.
‘I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy…’
4. Adele and Hugh Grant's character were neighbors. Before Adele was the star she is now, she rented the apartment above the bookstore where Will worked.
5. No, Anna Scott was not based on Julia Roberts. Writer Richard Curtis said that Anna Scott is based on a mix of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.
6. The line Julia struggled with the most was not ‘I’m just a girl standing in front of a boy…’ Nope. What Roberts struggled with the most was: ‘They go to bed with Gilda, they wake up with me.’ There is no clarification as to why she found this line difficult, but perhaps it is too recognizable from her own life as an actress? You go to bed with Vivian (her character in Pretty Woman) and you wake up with Julia…
