6 x faster wifi
It is of course quite bad that we (at least I do and I hope I'm not the only one) get slightly panicked when the wifi isn't working well. “But it's my job,” I always use as a good excuse and isn't that just the way it is?
Certain parts of the house also have terrible wifi, but the cause is unknown. We have been incredibly busy with new routers and cables and antennas and such, but it just won't help. My side of the bed, for example, has no wifi, but if I roll a little towards his side, suddenly the internet works super fast again. And when the whole building is binge-watching Netflix, everything slows down too much. Luckily, there was May (who also sometimes suffers from incredibly frustrating wifi problems). She sent me a study from the telecom agency about wifi speed that gives tips on how to get your internet to be the fastest of them all. And now I'm sharing them with you again.
1. Just call your internet provider to ask for a new router. If they're nice, they'll even come install it for you.
2. Stay by your router for a bit. Pet it, disconnect everything and place it in a different spot. And a little talking to it can't hurt. Think of it as a pet.
3. Don't hide the router in a cabinet or under the couch, you need to be able to see it well.
4. Check with an app like Acrylic (Windows), NetGear Genie (Android) or WiFi Explorer (Mac) which channels your neighbors are using and choose the least used channel. Think of it as a game.
5. “Router antennas go in all directions,” say computer guys. “See if the connection improves if you stick aluminum foil on the wall behind the box.” Well, it's worth a try.
6. Oh yes, and last but not least: reset the router. And resetting is a solution for many things. ALWAYS reset.
