6X THIS IS HOW YOU LOOK COOL
IN YOUR JOGGING SUIT
Since January, I have been working as a freelancer. For Amayzine, I am the fashion director, but I am also hired as a creative consultant by various brands that need styling and trend advice.
In practice, it means that I also work quite a bit from home and prefer to wear a comfy outfit that allows me to easily run errands and where it’s not a big deal if the cat gets her claws stuck in it. But of course, I have a reputation to uphold, so a jogging suit is a no-go. Fortunately, sportswear is an important fashion trend, and if you style it well, you’ll look fashionable according to the latest trends.
1. Ensure good items
So really invest in a nice pair of shorts. There are so many cool sportswear brands. Lulu Lemon is a yoga brand that is devoured in New York and LA and is also available in the Netherlands. I also find the shorts from La Perla very beautiful and soft, and for the cooler girls, Nike has some really nice pieces. And have you seen Stella McCartney for Adidas yet?
2. Mix and match
A jogging pant (and one that is wide and has a cuff at your ankles, ouch) with a matching loose sweater is therefore forbidden. I would choose a tapered pair of shorts or a nice fitted piece (if you can pull it off). On top, you preferably wear a wool sweater. That gives a nice contrast. If you really want something in a jersey fabric, I would choose a nice bulky sweater, preferably with a large sleeve piece and a straight bottom.
3. Comfy shoes
May would love to wear Prada heels under her jogging pants, but I find that a bit pretentious, haha. There are so many cute sneakers or an easy slip-on, or for my part, a ballerina. You radiate that you are going for comfort today, so let that also reflect in your shoes.
4. A statement accessory
A nice large pair of sunglasses, your hair in an asymmetrical side part, or a large scarf around your neck. Style it off. Show that this look was ‘the intention’ and not ‘a huge accident’.
5. Designer bag
Yes, it just goes crossbody around your body. The coolest thing about a designer bag is when you wear it casually. Like: that Jérôme Dreyfuss and I totally belong together. Even on a casual Sunday. Moreover, with your designer bag, you show people who don’t understand the relaxed look that you really know about fashion and are willing to invest in it.
6. Polished nails
The danger of such a comfy look is that people think you’ve completely let yourself go as a woman and are sitting behind your caffè latte gathering dust. If you ensure that your nails are neatly polished in a striking color, you immediately take that away. Watch out, before you know it, all your neighbors will be looking incredibly fashion-proof and street-smart.
