6 X WHY YOU WILL BE HERE THIS WEEKEND

(or tonight still...)

In elementary school, I had to write an essay about my dearest dream, and it became a story about a girl who hid under a duvet in the Bijenkorf on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 PM. For an entire evening and a day, she and her best friend had the place to themselves. Trying on clothes, running against the escalator in a thick bathrobe, munching on chocolate, and doing makeup all day at the stands of Chanel and Dior.

That dream still exists. In fact, it has only grown bigger since last night. The most important (ahem) editors-in-chief of the country were shown what has been worked on for so long: the new Bijenkorf on the Dam. This dinner is an annual gathering, and two years ago, CEO Giovanni Colauto already showed us how it was all going to be. That’s why the renewed Bijenkorf felt a bit like ours when we were shown around by Giovanni and his team yesterday. I’m going to tell you why you need to go to the Bijenkorf starting today, and immediately.

1. Revolving doors five meters high, space, space, space, and the chicest entrance of all department stores I have been to, and believe me, people, there are a lot. Forget Le Bon Marché or Bergdorf Goodman; they seem like cramped little shops compared to this sea of space and light.

2. New shop-in-shops for Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Céline

3. The international collection of the coolest labels. Gucci, Marni, Isabel Marant, Chloé, Céline, Stella McCartney, Rag & Bone: all equally cool and amazing. But also more high street labels like Topshop and the Dutch Denham.

4. The fitting room

You walk through a perspex corridor with all kinds of neon colors. I found it very Dior new style. And a fitting room with curtains so beautiful. By the way, you can leave them open on the Damrak side and play a little bit Standard Hotel (that hotel has floor-to-ceiling windows, and it seems, it seems, that guests there are always a bit busy having sex in front of those long windows. Read here how it goes there). But well, we would never do that. By the way, I did do a quick cellu-mirror check, and this mirror is completely approved.

5. The other fitting room

In the men's section, they built a couch where you can comfortably and cozily watch your beloved trying on Balmain or Givenchy. And who knows, someone from the Bijenkorf might bring you a glass of soda. If you shop well, they probably will.

6. The shoe department

Liesbeth wrote ever about the paradise of Harrods.... Well, move over with your Harrods. This is 1300 square meters of shoe heaven. Gucci, Céline, Isabel Marant, Tod’s, Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo... And this is also the place where I met my new loves: the dusty pink Gucci loafers that not everyone understood. Luckily, I found support from the buyer at the Bijenkorf (my dream job...). “Just get them. How could you possibly make it to Friday without them? Besides, I’ll get a commission.”

Just go there, buy those shoes (as long as you stay away from my Gucci’s) and hide under that duvet.
