8 X WHY YOU SUDDENLY WANT TO GET MARRIED IN WINTER

At the end of December, my girlfriend is getting married and I am really looking forward to it. I absolutely love winter weddings. I have Pinterest boards full of inspiration with everything related to winter weddings. Not for myself, because my wedding dress (yes, that one, I really have chosen it a LONG time ago) is not very winterproof and my reservation at La Paloma in Ibiza is already on hold for May 2025. By then, I should have found it, right? You should know that I was a wedding planner in a past life and was very happy with winter weddings. Subtle disclaimer, if you are reading this, you might suddenly change all your plans.
“Can Mr. Right please come forward now?”
- Getting married in winter is cheaper. Everyone prefers to say 'I do' in the months from May to September. If you get married in the fall, you will save a lot.
- You don't have to worry about whether the weather will be good and if the sun will shine, because that probably won't be the case anyway. What a relief that is. And the chance that it will be too warm is also 0. No whining and sweating groom with steam coming out of his jacket.
- The chance is much greater that all your loved ones can be present on the big day. No planned summer vacations and other nonsense. Just don't plan your wedding on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Then you are asking for cancellations.
- You can look for romantic indoor locations. A beautiful garden is a plus, but not a must.
- Because it is often less busy in winter, many suppliers are still available on your wedding day. Even if you order a bit later (because oh, you will be shocked by the tight deadlines).
- You can play around with cozy winter elements. Lots of candles, lights, or maybe you go all the way with a Christmas tree. And getting married by the fireplace, how romantic is that? And what about a dinner with cheese fondue and red wine? That’s possible, after all, it’s winter.
- Why champagne when you can welcome your guests with a huge pot of apple cider or mulled wine on a burner? And at the end of the evening, melting marshmallows over the fire pit, with sparklers of course.
- Last but not least: everyone will remember your wedding, because almost no one does it in winter. Until this piece was written, that is...
