A WEEK WITHOUT IPHONE TO BED

This is how it went

Well, the title sounds incredibly dramatic and all, but folks, this was a real challenge. I fall asleep and wake up with that thing and that's concerning, because it's not nice and quiet for my head. So a rigorous phone-in-bed detox was necessary. And this is how it went.

  1. The idea was to put my phone on the charger in the living room and work with an alarm clock. One that has been on my nightstand for years but is never used. I set a bird chirping sound for 7:15 AM and the alarm on my iPhone went off. So said, so done.
  2. But before I said goodbye to my phone to make my way to bed, I was a bit nervously refreshing my social media, mailbox, and NU.nl to quickly gulp everything down. I started to procrastinate before I really went to bed. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?
  3. Okay, once I was lying down, it was immediately more than okay. In fact, what a peace. You have more time for a chat and for each other. And for a book or a magazine. You fall asleep much better with that too.
  4. The first few days I immediately felt a bit restless after my alarm buzzed. Had I received an email? Instagram? Facebook? I MUST CHECK.
  5. So I immediately got out of bed to check everything right away in the living room. But well, then I was immediately out.
  6. And now? Now I no longer have that. I take a nice shower and then remember: oh yes! My phone. Falling asleep goes better, I sleep better, it's cozier in bed and getting up is also much cooler.
  7. People, phones are banned from the bedroom from now on. Trust me.
