ALL OLYMPIC ATHLETES DRINK COCONUT WATER
In Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Deodoro, and Maracanã, sports are played at more than 32 different locations. Team Netherlands consists of 241 Dutch Olympic athletes and 114 Paralympic athletes, and all this means that starting Friday and for the two weeks after, the television will be on at my home. The cyclists eat pasta and stack as many carbohydrates as possible, but the judokas only eat an apple to avoid gaining any weight for their weight class. And the handball players eat as much protein as possible for that gold medal. But what they have in common is drinking coconut water. Fortunately, it is widely available in Brazil. But why coconut water, actually?
– Coconut water hydrates your body immensely.
– There are incredibly many nutrients in coconut water. Minerals, for example (and not just a few), that help your organs, brain, and nervous system function properly. An example of your daily mineral needs per 100 ml of coconut water:
– potassium: 5% (potassium is essential for regulating heart rate and muscle function)
– magnesium: 6% (important for good heart muscle function)
– natrium: 7%
– calcium: 2,4%
– copper: 4%
– vitamin C: 4%
– Coconut water works very well for good digestion.
– And not unimportantly: it is low in calories.
