BEAT DE BROW
the do's and don'ts for your eyebrows
Where once people were plucking them extremely thin, there is now some panic if even one hair is pulled out. Eyebrows are gaining ground. They are incredibly important for your face and we are therefore frantically trying to make them grow and flourish. A little bit of Cara is something we all want. So it's time to give the hairy awnings above our eyes the attention they deserve.
In Canada the impact of eyebrows has been well researched. Researchers showed 25 images of celebrities without eyebrows and 25 images of celebrities without eyes. The study aimed to find out if the testers still recognized the celebs. Well, the result was that 56 percent recognized the stars without eyes. 46 percent (so a little less) recognized the stars without eyebrows. In other words: without eyebrows, you are less recognizable. Good to know, because we really need to pay some attention to our brows. The do's and don'ts summarized.
Do's
* Pay attention to your eyebrows. You might not say it, but it is the most striking part of your face. They draw all the attention to themselves and ensure that your face actually gets shape. Do you want to.
* A good tweezers is a lifetime investment. So it can be worth spending a bit of money on. The better brands even have a service where you can have the tweezers sharpened from time to time, keeping them sharp at all times. Quite smart, because then you can even catch the most hidden hairs. With a dull tip, you only cause wounds and hassle. Life investment indeed.
* Brush and set. Many people meticulously fill in their eyebrows, but forget to brush them out. Such a shame, because if you brush them upwards, they look much more natural and you get an even more open gaze. If you want to give them even more color, choose an eyebrow gel with color. If you find that a bit exciting, you can set them with a transparent gel.
* Light brows? An eyebrow gel with a soft color makes them look very full in a second. It doesn't get easier than that.
* If you color your eyebrows with a pencil or a filler, choose the highest point at about two-thirds of your eyebrow. That gives an optical lift and that seems to be the intention.
Dont's
* Do not look in a magnifying mirror, but just tweeze in a normal bathroom mirror. It gives a very distorting image because you don't see the whole. This way, you can much better determine the shape of your eyebrows, which also prevents you from plucking hairs that should actually stay.
* Tweezing excess hairs is fine, but determining the shape is best done by a specialist who knows what suits your face shape and what shape they should have.
* The color of a powder or pencil can be quite tricky. They can quickly be red or grayish and thus make you look tired. Also, be careful not to go too dark, as that gives a very harsh appearance. Color is therefore difficult to determine, but stick close to your original hair color. That way, you won't miss the mark too quickly.
* Treat your eyebrows like sisters, not like twins. Eyebrows are not identical, so you don't have to make them exactly the same. That's also their strength.
* Waxing? You only do that when your hairs are really long enough. So let them grow. Are you a bit annoyed by it? Then you can cover them up with a concealer or highlighter and do nothing in between.
