Blogger Names for Dummies

Thursday I am flying with May to New York Fashion Week. Yes, ugh, annoying, I know. But someone has to do it. Just kidding, you all understand that I actually find this super fun, but that I will also be working really hard there. While May is comfortably sitting among all the fashion people at the shows (she says that’s hard work too, by the way), I will be rediscovering my old athletics past outside, because anyone who has anything to do with fashion (fun, attention-grabbing, crazy), I will be chasing after. With a camera.

Because it would be quite awkward if I mispronounced the names of all those fashion people wrongly, I have made a little study of it. Also handy for you, because even if you’re not chasing after them, it’s still cool to know how to pronounce the name Chiara Ferragni. So here it is: pronouncing blogger names for dummies.

Chiara Ferragni (Kie-a-ra- Fe-ra-nie)

I already know that I will still ask May a couple of times how I should pronounce it exactly. But it is Kie-a-ra- Fe-ra-nie. Bellissima!

Aimee Song (Ahh-mie S-ong)

So it’s not Ey-mie, but Ahh-mie. This blogger had it in her Instagram bio for years. They probably got tired of it being mispronounced every time.

Pernille Teisbaek (Per-nill Tease-beck)

Well, those Danes just often have tricky names. But then again, foreigners probably think the same about Dutch names. So if you come across this blonde beauty, the last name is Tease-beck.

Camille Charriere (Ca-meel Sharry-air)

Think of the French word for butt (derrière), it rhymes with Charriere, and you’ll never forget it. Quite fitting too, because she is French herself.

Caroline de Maigret (Caro-leen de Meh-grè)

Let’s stay with the French ladies for a bit, because everything that is Parisian, we want too. A common mistake: the ‘t’ is not pronounced here. So try to avoid Meh-gret. It’s C’est Meh-grè, d’accord?

Julie Sariñana (Julie Sari-nja-na)

This one should be easy. Pretend there’s a ‘j’ after the ‘n’. Easy peasy, ladies.

Anya Ziourova (On-ya Zee-oh-ro-vah)

I still need to master this one too. But if you ever hope to end up in a Russian fashion magazine, make sure Zee-oh-ro-vah rolls off your tongue.

Good luck with that. And if you run into me and May, it’s Mee-Brit Moo-bag (and don’t immediately think of bags with that last one) and Elke Wij-nands (hey, that one is nice and easy).
