BREAKFASTING WITH PURDEY’S

Yes okay, a breakfast with Purdey’s, this is how I always want to start my mornings. I mention Jimmy Nelson, the founders of Holistik.nl Karlijn and Evelyn, and prof. dr. Meike Bartels (biological psychologist) with whom I sat at the table. If you are in need of a hefty dose of inspiration, then with these four you have the ultimate combination. From descriptions of happiness and how it actually has quite a significant genetic link, to deciding to stop a successful business to build something completely new again. Or traveling for months to the most remote places in the world to get to know cultures that most of us didn’t even know existed. As I said, breakfast with Purdey’s, then be prepared for a whole lot of inspiration.

With the slogan ‘Thrive On’, Purdey’s hopes to inspire people to really take the step to discover what exactly it is in life that makes them intensely happy. Biological psychologist Meike Bartels introduced us to the explanation of the term ‘happiness’, which we often underestimate or don’t think about at all. Happiness is largely genetically determined. Some people simply become happier from healthy foods instead of a bowl of ice cream, to give just one example. So you can try everything to stay away from all unhealthy snacks, but in the long run, that will only make you unhappier. Take our Jet's advice: everything is allowed, but in moderation. Believe me, then you will genuinely be happier.

‘Thrive On’

And then the girls from Holistik.nl. I must say, if you ever need a boost of confidence regarding work or if you still need that extra push to make a decision: meet up with these girls. Years ago they set up a very successful concept, but was that their ultimate form of happiness in terms of work? Absolutely not. But what do you do when you have a thriving business that you can live very well from but are not happy with? Saying goodbye to financial security is quite a step, but Karlijn and Evelyn did it and decided to start a new business. And of course, they are still far from where they want to be with their new company, but they are heading in the right direction. And even more importantly: they enjoy it.

And then there was Jimmy Nelson. We already knew he could photograph, but this good man has such a unique and fun way of telling his stories that he hardly needs any photos anymore. Almost, because his photos are so intensely beautiful and special, you just want to see them.

Well, as I mentioned last time here , it's time to grab your own strings with both hands. Oh well, with one hand then. You need the other for your bottle of Purdey’s. And for that extra shove in the right direction: Idris Elba will be proud of you. And who wouldn’t want the possibly future James Bond to be proud of them…
