10 X why you should go on vacation with your mother

‘A week under one roof with your mother, really? I recently had mine over for just 24 hours and almost flew at her…’, said a colleague whose name I will not mention.

Because going on vacation with your mother, is that an absolute yes or asking for trouble?

I have built a pretty good relationship with my mother. Where we had to make do for years with a short Skype call because I lived abroad or with quick emails, we made up for it in 2015. With the cherry on top a week of quality time in beautiful Ibiza.

And now you might be thinking: Ibiza? Together with your mother? For a week? Exactly that yes, that’s what we were going to do. Okay, I also sat next to her in the rental car cursing because she was driving forty where she could go sixty. ‘Mom come on, speed up, you may be a grandmother now, but you don’t have to act like that, okay.’ So.

But aside from that little speeding incident, we only sat on the balcony crying with laughter, and further we shopped and really had some good mother-daughter quality time. I’ll give you ten more reasons why you should sneak away with your mom.

1. You can just go to bed at ten o'clock without being dull or boring.

2. Then get up nice and early and you still have a mega long day ahead of you.

3. When you’re out with mom, you get your way nine out of ten times, because if you’re happy, mom is too.

4. After a long day at the beach, you can easily take a nap in your room. Because you can and because you don’t have to justify yourself.

5. For that wine and tapas night, the high heels can stay nicely in the closet. What am I saying? At home…

6. You can reminisce the old-fashioned way, who knows you better than your own flesh and blood?

7. When you, like me, have the same sizes and hipness as mom, there’s just a double summer wardrobe in the closet. You can change three times a day. Okay, let’s leave the swimwear out of it.

“Mom, when are we going again?”

8. You don’t have to be ashamed if you take another helping at the breakfast buffet. Moms do it too.

9. Now you still have time for it. Later, when there’s a ring on your finger or when three kids are trailing behind you, it will be a bit trickier.

10. And maybe the coolest part: you can just carefreely lie next to her in that tiny bikini…
