Carolien’s Fast Lane Life
Yes, another fresh weekday diary from our Carolien. Because you know: she never sits still…
One of the many things my dear mother taught me from a young age is to properly cleanse your face before going to sleep. Whether you wear six layers of makeup or go au naturel that day: it is always important to remove all visible and invisible dirt with a good cleansing milk or lotion. Funny enough, Marly also got this instilled in her by her mother. So when we were approached to participate in the ‘Clean Faces Week’ at the end of August, we didn't have to think long. The goal is to encourage everyone to share their clean face with the world, just like us. Fortunately, Marly and I post more photos without makeup than with, so our bare-faced look will be no shock to anyone!
Months ago, I had already booked this trip: a weekend to the Dordogne to lie in the sun, eat delicious food, and – of course – drink lovely French wines with my godmother. But the closer the trip got, the more panicked I became: so much still needs to be arranged for The Big Day, so I can't possibly be away for three days now? Fortunately, Jon reassured me and said it was actually good to take three days to clear my head. So off to la douce France, with a head full of a thousand lists. And he was right: what a joy it was to not worry for a few days about catering, the script, and all the transport schedules. When we wrapped up the weekend at restaurant Le Vieux Logis with white truffles and pure chocolate ganache tarts, I knew for sure: this weekend away couldn't have come a second later...
“Shall we have a nice cup of coffee?” I hear myself say to a friend, as a sort of standard phrase when you want to make plans. Which is quite strange, since I never drink coffee. Well, maybe two stray moments a year when I'm in Italy and suddenly crave a cappuccino with Jon at one of those cutest little places, but on all other days, you’ll only see me with a (preferably gigantic) cup of tea in my hand. So while coffee drinkers are always looking for the best coffee in town, I love discovering new tea brands. Last week, I stumbled upon Newby Teas and immediately felt the ‘urge’ to test it. Genmaicha is my favorite flavor (for the uninitiated: green tea with puffed rice), so I had to grab a bag of that. And what immediately caught my attention were tea balls that bloom into a beautiful flower in your glass. The test result was very positive: both types absolutely left me wanting more.
I still remember well that a few years ago I bought my first wireless bra and thought: hallelujah, this feels so good! Now I'm lucky that I don't have a large cup size and thus have more than enough with a top without any support. By now, my lingerie drawer is full of tops from Love Stories and La Maison Nouvelle. But last week, there was a lovely package on the doorstep from a new lingerie brand: Lola + Lou. Another beautiful lace bralette with an elastic band, which keeps it in place nicely. And to convince me that a wired bra can also be comfortable: this green model without padding. To be honest: it does feel nice. Am I stepping away from my beliefs: not yet. But who knows, my drawer might slowly fill up with more of these wired friends. And if a little one is on the way in the future, then I will definitely have to believe that if I am to believe my girlfriends...
A girl just can’t have too many shoes! As long as I keep saying this to myself like a mantra, everything will be just fine... Especially now that I have a pretty specific task in mind: finding metallic-colored summer shoes for all my white outfits in Italy. Well, you only get married once, so I want to be fully dressed in white designs that entire week. Through Abbey, I discovered the shoe brand Eureka and indeed had a moment of realization when I saw the collection. Literally one design after another with my name written in block letters... And also many models with a low heel, yet still elegant. I just couldn’t help myself: two days later, DHL was at the door with a huge box containing four pairs of new shoes. Tip: never order more models so you can choose at home. This means that if you like everything a little, no pair will be returned. Uh, Jon, could you make some space in the shoe cabinet that is already almost entirely filled with my shoes?
