THE 7 1TP5GOALS OF MAY
Because September is the new January
September is often referred to as the January of fashion, but it is especially the January in my head. I find New Year's resolutions quite stale, but 1TP5goals in September feel incredibly 2016 to me. You probably have it too, floating on your air mattress and thinking about all the things you will do differently when real life starts again.
These are mine, maybe you can benefit from them or add to my list.
1. 1TP5Sports
Renate Gerschtanowitz said recently in an interview that if there were a pill that meant you would never have to exercise again, she would absolutely take it. Although I don't belong to her family, because I really enjoy exercising, it apparently has no priority for me, as I just don't do it enough. And I don't want soft arms. And no flabby belly. And above all, I want to be able to clear my thoughts in my head from time to time. So, it just goes in the agenda. Twice a week in the morning (Tuesday and Thursday seems like a good option since there is traffic anyway) and on Saturday morning. I will work an hour longer in the evening.
2. 1TP5Cooking
I really love food, but cooking is a bit less in my system. I always quote Peggy Weijergang that ‘buying from the right caterer and serving beautifully is also a merit’ and I am very good at appetizers. Brie de Meau, vitello tonato, small glasses of gazpacho... I don't mind that at all. But real hardcore cooking, you have to go to my partner for that. I want to change this because cooking is cozy and fun. I have even started cooking from Het boek van Jet because it is quick and easy, and then I will cautiously (with Jet as a prompter) dust off the Ottolenghi books...
3. 1TP5Going to bed early
Or at least on time. Just with Humberto or Jeroen or Eva and then immediately after (okay, with Jeroen sometimes halfway) shut your little beaks and close your eyes.
4. 1TP5Waking up early
I actually do this quite well (because of kids), but before the vacation, I changed my schedule to, don't be shocked, getting up at 06:15. Now I don't have to fill lunch boxes and braid hair because I just hand over my children unwashed and uncombed to my mother or Stella (our super nanny) and can wake up peacefully at 08:00, but soon when the school season starts, the alarm will go off early again. They say that people who wake up early conquer the world (think Anna Wintour, Richard Branson, and Michele Obama). Whether that will work, I don't know, but at least I have been able to comb my hair.
5. 1TP5Home
As in: framing photos, going to the art rental, moving furniture to different places, going to the flea market in Paris to find furniture that no one else has.
6. 1TP5Drink cabinet
1TP5Home brings me immediately to this point, because as I wrote here, I have completely set my sights on an old-fashioned drink cabinet. With an ice bucket, some slices of lemon and lime, a selection of tonic waters, and various types of whiskey for when Renske comes to visit. With beautiful glasses, I want those too.
7. 1TP5Drinking less
You won't believe it, but I am already working on that. While it's summer. Well, summer, summer. Officially it's summer and you are allowed to drink nicely. But I do it in moderation. A glass of wine before dinner, a cup of coffee afterwards, and maybe another nice glass and that's it. Are you 1TP5proud of me?
