Carolien’s Fast Lane Life

The word is out! Together with these stars, I play the lead role in the new movie ‘Bella Donna's’. Last week, the filming started and I can already tell you that it’s going to be hilarious. Kiki, Eva, and I are also friends in real life, so we don’t have to act that part, luckily. The story is about three best friends who lose their fourth ‘bestie’ in a diving accident (which was one of her bucket list items). As a tribute, the girls decide to complete their deceased friend's bucket list, without even looking at what’s on it. One of the items is to find happiness in love, but they all fail miserably at that. You’ll have to wait a year until it hits theaters, but until then, I’ll keep you updated via Amayzine.

I still remember well that Marly and I would sit behind the laptop at least once a week and completely empty the Topshop online… There was no Topshop to be found in the Netherlands yet, so we thought it was super cool to walk around in their latest creations exclusively. Now that Topshop is just a bike ride away, that exclusivity has become a bit less, but at least I can see and try everything live! Actually quite dangerous. And as one of the few stores in Amsterdam, they even have a personal shopper in-house who helps you find your perfect style and outfit. Now I have a pretty outspoken clothing style, so I was curious if they could also shop a rack for me. The result: twenty minutes later, I was already outside with my perfect outfit for winter! Hats off, Topshop, hats off.

While I can always look forward to such a lovely winter day (clear blue sky, but freezing cold), my skin really thinks otherwise. As soon as that cold air stream is felt, I want to scratch my legs open and dozens of dry spots and bumps pop up all over my face. Believe me, I have truly tried everything: vitamin E oil, scrubs, the thickest creams you can think of, but the result is a maximum of one week of success. When I heard about the skincare brand iDDNA that works with your own DNA as ingredients, I was immediately intrigued: body-own substances that replenish the deficiencies your skin needs. And so far, it works like crazy. The bumps disappear like snow in the sun and my face no longer feels tight. Now just a top product for the rest of that body and I’m completely winterproof! Tips, anyone?

Acting is suffering from the cold, we often say jokingly. Well, it’s actually not that funny: often you find yourself in impossible locations pretending it’s midsummer (because those summer days can be counted on one hand in the Netherlands). So when I put on this lovely latex suit during the fitting for ‘Bella Donna’s’, I already shivered at the thought of the day we would shoot this… And yes, on shooting day number one, this scene was already scheduled. In the evening, right in the city center, with a nice autumn temperature of about six degrees. Luckily, we have the sweetest crew on set who keeps waiting for you with a thick coat and a cup of jasmine tea, but the cold seeps through to your bones in no time. By the last take, I was struggling to articulate and when the scene was over, I couldn’t get home fast enough for a warm shower. But no sympathy, guys, I really have the best job on earth!

On these kinds of winter days, I really crave a chai tea from Starbucks. I know, it’s pure sugar in a cup, but on such a unit, I can survive the rest of the day. I’m still looking for the best chai version to make at home. And believe me, I’ve tested a lot of types: many powder variants are too sweet, a teabag alone doesn’t provide enough flavor, and the pack from Yogi Tea is just not sweet enough. So I’d like to enlist your help in my quest for the best DIY chai! Ideally, I’d like to get a homemade recipe so I can brew it myself, but then you need to know the right ingredients and quantities. Do you have such a recipe at home? I’ll be eternally grateful if you pass that on to Sinterklaas so he can put it in my shoe.
