Carolien’s wedding diary
‘Beauty comes from within… and with a little help from my friends!’
Slowly but surely, all the puzzle pieces are starting to fall into place. Our hallway looks like we've started a DHL pickup point, and after the delivery of all the drinks, the neighbors now think we're ripe for Jellinek... But fortunately, everything is still under control, and I can't wait to unpack all those boxes in Italy. But besides all the material care, a bit of personal care also comes into play. The day before my departure is already tightly scheduled with an eyebrow visit, a wax treatment, an OPI mani and pedi (I've even searched for pictures for inspiration: too many options, sigh...) plus a massage from my ‘guru’ at the Chill Out Spa to massage out the worst nerves. Like that’s gonna help, but at least it’s a little relaxation moment. And on The Big Day, there’s still a thing or two to do with that head. Luckily, I’m blessed with the best hairdresser in the country as a girlfriend, so she will take care of my wedding hair in addition to being a guest. Next week, we’re going to cut a bit of my locks and try out my ‘marriage cut’. Quite a risk, because if I don’t like it, we can’t stick my hair back on. But hey, taking a little risk is my middle name.
When it comes to makeup, it was a bit trickier. Fortunately, I discovered Charlotte Tilbury's products a few months ago and I was immediately hooked! My skin dries out faster than you can say “I do”, so when I still didn’t feel tight after a day of makeup, I knew I had found my perfect brand. But who can apply that lovely makeup for the ceremony? At first, I thought I could do it just fine myself, but now that the nerves are kicking in more and more, I’m afraid I’ll be wobbling to that altar with crooked eyeliner or way too many layers. And then suddenly my saving angel fell from the sky like a gift! My girlfriend-slash-actress-slash-guest at our wedding, Sanne Langelaar, once took a makeup artist course and offered to take on this immense task! So we went together to the Charlotte Tilbury stand in the Bijenkorf to create the perfect wedding look together with the makeup artist. Last week we practiced at my place again, and all my makeup stress disappeared like snow in the sun: Sanne is just a top makeup artist! She can still switch careers. It’s so true what they say: with a little help from your friends, you can conquer the whole world! Even on the most important day of your life…
