CHANEL N°5 L’EAU

A classic update

If I think there’s one perfume that belongs on your bathroom shelf, it’s definitely Chanel N°5. A classic. And yes, I have it on my shelf too. Just like millions of other women who love a classic scent. But millennials (yay, that’s me too) need something a bit lighter and fresher. Personally, I find that very nice, because Chanel N°5 is for a special night out, and Chanel L’Eau I wear all day long. And I’m going to give you five reasons why this one also deserves a front-row spot in your fragrance wardrobe.

1. The scent

The scent had to be characteristically the classic Chanel N°5. But then a bit lighter and fresher. That has been achieved. The scent of orange peels and aldehydes dominates, and the most present citrus scent is emphasized. It doesn’t get much fresher than this. Then we have the heart of rose, jasmine, and ylang ylang, which has made it a bit greener. In the base, you have musk, cotton, and cider, which give the scent a bit more strength, but in such a way that the scent still doesn’t become too heavy.

“Just that alone is a little work of art.”

2. The nose of the scent

The scent was developed by Olivier Polge, the house perfumer of Chanel. He is the son of the famous nose Jacques Polge, known for almost all Chanel fragrances. But Olivier hasn’t lagged behind, you know. He can also attach his name (or rather nose) to various fragrances. I mention Burberry The Beat, Cacharel, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and quite a few Chanel fragrances. And now he has put his nose into L’Eau. Just that alone promised so much good. He has delivered another gem of a work.

3. The bottle

The bottle is insane. It’s exactly the same as Chanel N°5, but with the white label and the transparent scent, très classy and fresh. When you slide the scent out of the box (a magical moment), there’s a cardboard white sleeve around the scent. Sounds a bit shabby, but it’s really beautiful because of the scent that has been punched out. Just that alone is a little work of art.

4. Lily-Rose Depp

The campaign is directed by Johan Renck (who has quite a few beauty campaigns to his name) and for the lead role, Lily-Rose Depp has been cast. The young version of the classic N°5 image, where life is full of surprises and Lily-Rose shows different sides of herself. An artist, a muse, vulnerable and invincible. Oh, and I’ve already sneakily seen the one-minute commercial for Christmas. Believe me, it’s so amazing, I can’t wait until Christmas and it can be on repeat.
