6 WORKOUT TIPS FOR DURING YOUR VACATION
As we speak, I'm sitting comfortably with my bare bottom on Ibiza. My vitamin D intake still needed to be topped up to get through the winter.
A week of vacation doesn't mean doing absolutely nothing for a week. Okay, I'm not getting up at seven to lift weights, but my workouts just continue.
During my vacation, I swap the gym for the outdoors. Nothing better than exercising by the sea and even May thinks so...
Are you going to a sunny destination this fall? Then take your running shoes with you, because there is no better workout to start your day. Just make sure to read these tips first.
1. Avoid heat
Try to get out of bed as early as possible. This way, you can beat the heat. Additionally, running on a packed beach is not very convenient. I mean a sandcastle or a stray umbrella. But how beautiful is a run with a rising sun?
2. Stay close to the sea
Run when the tide is out, as the sand is firm and flat then. Want a bit more challenge? Look for dry sand.
So, now straight to the breakfast buffet.
3. Build up
Gradually build up your run. It's much harder than running on asphalt. Start with 20 minutes and slowly increase it. Or take a short walking break in between.
4. Barefoot
Running barefoot is very healthy. Our ancestors did nothing else, so it's not that strange. It seems that this way you can ground better. Now, I don't have much trouble grounding here in Ibiza, but that also has to do with the Chardonnay and that divine cheesecake I had last night (and which I now have to run off).
5. Protection
Make sure to apply sunscreen well before you run onto the beach. Avoid liquid sunscreen on your face; it's better to use a stick due to sweating.
6. Stay hydrated
Drink at least one glass of water before you go running. Going for a long run? Then take a bottle with you.
So, now straight to the breakfast buffet.
