HOLIDAY CHAT WITH BERTIE STEUR
This is how Kiki’s farmer friend celebrates her Christmas
You already know that Expedition Robinson winner Bertie and I are buddies for life. Otherwise, take a look here at 17 quick questions for Bertie or here for a hilariously funny interview on camera where we speak Zeelandic. And friends naturally know what each other is doing for Christmas. It’s high time for a farmer's chat with Bertie.
What does Christmas look like at your place?
“Let me put it this way: I have no Christmas decorations due to an unfiltered house tiger whose one goal in life is to throw everything on the ground.”
What’s on the Christmas menu?
“Is it very bad if I say that I do see that when I join? There’s really no kitchen princess in me.”
What is your favorite recipe around the holidays?
“Well, recipe, I always find gourmetting quite cozy.”
And you probably have a favorite Christmas movie...
“Shall I go for something nice and old-fashioned? The Sound of Music.”
2016 was really your year, right? How has your life changed?
“Currently, my life is very busy with all the media, but that will probably fade away soon. Ultimately, I think not much will change, maybe I’ll start DJing a bit more again.”
I can imagine that all that media attention can be a bit overwhelming. How do you deal with it?
“By reminding myself that the new year is coming and when it’s calm again, it remains manageable.”
Have you actually had media training?
“Not for experienced Expedition Robinson, no. A little bit with Farmer Wants a Wife, but that was mainly focused on saying as little as possible, haha. But that’s more of an inside joke for people who have seen it and found me so quiet at the kitchen table.” (By the way, if you want to see that again, series 8 in 2014-2015, ed.)
And if you had to name one thing you learned the most in 2016?
“Maybe saying no more often and standing my ground.”
Any new resolutions for 2017?
“I always find good resolutions a bit silly. If I want to change something, I’m not going to wait until New Year’s Eve.”
What’s your craziest memory of Christmas?
“I was going to go out with friends in Nijmegen on Christmas Day. The weather just kept getting worse and eventually, we drove there in a sort of snowstorm. Let’s just say we took a bit longer (read: four times) than planned.”
What’s the ultimate cheesy but oh so delicious Christmas song?
“Mariah Carey with All I Want for Christmas. Believe it or not, I’ve even been to a Mariah concert once. Amazing.”
Are you a fireworks freak? Or rather a watcher from behind the window during New Year’s Eve?
“I always stand by my horses when the fireworks start to see if they’re not too scared. I don’t really need it…”
Do you have a special New Year’s wish?
“Wishing everyone very Merry Christmas days of course and the very best wishes for 2017 and also lots of reading pleasure on Amayzine!”
