And this turns out not to work at all…

In the neverending struggle to make my iPhone last as long as possible, I think, like almost every other iPhone user, that I’m being very clever by closing my apps. You know, swiping them up so they’re ‘really’ closed.

Well, it’s all lies, my whole life is a lie, nothing is certain anymore: because it all turns out to be complete nonsense and doesn’t matter at all. A high-ranking official at Apple has confirmed in a leaked email that apps running in the background have no impact on your battery life.

To quote Janice: oh. my. god.

There’s a lot of technical stuff to say about it, but it boils down to the fact that as soon as you swipe away a certain app or go to another app, the first app kind of ‘freezes’, and only starts running again when you open it. In fact, your battery drains faster because when you’ve swiped it up and then open it again, the whole app has to reload and that just uses more battery.

Again: oh. my. god.

Apps that use GPS, a running playlist on Spotify, and a recorder do consume battery if you don’t swipe them away, but that makes sense because they are actually still in use. But otherwise: swipe all you want, it doesn’t matter AT ALL. Man, what a disappointment.
