Thank god it’s Friday

Bracha van Doesburgh

It's not like Bracha van Doesburgh is sitting back with a glass of wine on the right and a book on the left. As the mother of almost 1-year-old twins and a 3-year-old daughter, she's just a bit too busy for that. And while playing, because in between the recordings of Nieuwe Buren, she also voiced the main character in the film Storks. And that, dear people, premieres on Sunday.

When does your weekend start?

“Almost, when I step inside at home and my kids are there. Actually, I still have some German texts to rehearse, but I prefer to work as little as possible on the weekend.”

What do you do on Saturday?

“Tomorrow morning I’ll work a bit more. Rehearse texts and I’ll write the last letter of my correspondence with Sofie van den Enk. She’s in Malawi for Edukans. But I like to keep Saturday as relaxed as possible. Just doing something fun with the five of us.”

Is there cooking going on?

“I really enjoy cooking, but since the boys arrived, I don’t really have time for it anymore. Now I actually enjoy it when someone cooks for me. Then I go out to eat with Daan and the kids. If I cook, I go for French cuisine.”

What kind of music do you play on the weekend?

“A playlist from Spotify or some jazz music on Sunday morning. But at home, the CD with the most popular nursery songs from 2016 is in the CD player. ‘Little elephant in the forest’, haha. Daan plays a bit of piano and also takes lessons. The twins go completely wild when he plays, they start moving up and down very energetically.”

How does your Sunday look? Does it feel different than Saturday?

“Sure, Sunday is the premiere of Storks, I voiced the character Tulip. I’m wearing a really nice dress by Claes Iversen. So, an early start.”

If money and time difference were no object, what would your dream weekend be?

“Then I would go with Daan for a weekend to New York. Just wandering around, occasionally stopping somewhere for a drink, no plan.”

Do you have time to read a book, for example? Which one, which one, which one?

“No, not at all. I start with good intentions, but it ends up next to my bed on the nightstand. Right now, ‘I’ll be back’ by Adriaan van Dis is waiting. It will happen, really.”

What time does your alarm go off on Monday?

“I don’t need to set that. The boys wake up at five in the morning. And at six, I’m in the car for the recordings of a German film.’
