Thank god it’s Friday

Lieke van Lexmond

If anyone had a week this week, it was Lieke van Lexmond. A fantastic kick-off of her new drama series CMC for RTL4 and big news, because Lieke is expecting her second son. That's why we know that there is something non-alcoholic in her glass at this Thank God it’s Friday moment, but what? We're going to tell you now.

Normally, this column starts with the question: what time does your Thank God it’s Friday moment begin and what’s in your glass, but that’s alcohol-free of course now…

“Normally, I have a gin and tonic or a cold Pinot Noir on Fridays, but now I’m drinking a glass of ginger ale with ice and lemon.”

What a week it has been for you: new drama series and baby news. Have you been overwhelmed by the positive reactions? What was the sweetest?

“It was a super nice week. It’s wonderful that so many people watched and reacted positively to the series. And of course, it’s very nice not to have to be secretive about my pregnancy anymore. I’ve only received lovely reactions!”

Tell us a bit about CMC and your role.

“Finally, the Netherlands has a hospital series again. I play Cleo, and she is the new director of the hospital. It’s her task to make the hospital profitable again. It’s about the patients, the doctors, and the nurses who are actually continuously followed. You really get to know them well as a viewer. It remains a fascinating world, a place you’d actually prefer never to be, but it does trigger you.”

What does your Saturday look like?

“On Saturday, I’ll be in Zeeland with my family. Our parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last week, and we’re celebrating that together this weekend. Enjoying cycling, walking on the beach, preparing mussels, playing games, and having wonderful quality time.”

Suppose time difference and travel time didn’t matter, what would your ideal weekend look like? Breakfast in Paris and shopping in Shanghai?

“Ideally, I would travel with time, so I could have lunch three times a day if necessary, but make the most of the day. Waking up to the waves of the Thai sea, having breakfast with fresh fruit, a coconut, and a mega nice massage, then shopping in New York, strolling by the fountains in Rome, going to the theater in London, having sushi lunch in Tokyo, catching fresh salmon in Canada among the bears, and making a big campfire in New Zealand. After that, snorkeling in St. Barths and hiking in the Himalayas. Oh, as you can hear, I can’t choose and I’m crazy about all nature.”

Does Sunday look different than Saturday in the Van Veggel-van Lexmond household? What does Sunday look like?

“I have to work a lot on Sundays because of the series we shoot on weekends and due to ‘Lelijke Eendjes’, where surgeries are also scheduled on weekends. Actually, weekends are sacred with our family, waking up slowly, baking fresh rolls, and doing everything without haste.”

What music do you listen to and what series are you watching?

“I listen to all kinds of music. Carla Bruni, Madeleine Peyroux, Tina Turner, Leonard Cohen, Matt Simons…”

What should everyone do this weekend?

“Everyone should go outside, really make time for each other, put the phone away, and genuinely ask each other how they are!”
