Dinner with
Hagelswag
Meet these boys: Robbert & Lennart (Vos&Len) from Hagelswag. They have only one mission and that is to make sure that all of New York sprinkles hagelslag on their sandwiches. And of course, the whole world after that. No one in the Netherlands has ever tasted hagelslag, but in the US, there is no one who has ever heard of it. That needs to change. Hagelswag consists of thick chocolate chunks, to be shaken out of a mega super hipster bottle (just look here) and available for 30 euros. Well, Kanye West, are you reading along?
Where in the world is your favorite restaurant?
‘We prefer to sit down at a good burger joint. In our own city, we like to go to Geflipt or The Butcher.’
And who would you really like to have dinner with? It can be anyone.
‘Then we’ll go for a fiery Gasconne beef burger with Madame Jeanette and Emily Ratajkowski.’
Where do you prefer to sit in a restaurant?
‘The place doesn’t matter to us. What’s more important is who is at the table.’
What do you always hope is on the menu?
‘Special beers, burgers and good coffee.’
And is there something you really dislike? If so, tell us.
‘Wet beer coasters, lame Boomerang cards, wobbly tables, hard chairs, drunk tourists, beer on your pants, sauce in your beard, but especially closing time.’
Do you find your way on the wine list?
‘Definitely, we mainly follow the rule: the longer the description on the label, the better the wine.’
Starter or dessert?
‘We have a weakness for chocolate, so we’ll go for dessert.’
And, let’s say you’re cooking for a date for the first time. What’s on the table?
‘The date.’
What fun things are you currently working on?
Right now we are in production of the first batch of Hagelswag, preparing for our trip to New York, and visiting one of the largest chocolate fairs in America there.
What else can you do with Hagelswag besides sprinkling it on your sandwich?
‘Hagelswag goes well with your morning muesli, your afternoon toast, and fresh strawberries. As soon as we’re in New York, we’ll of course immediately taste how the chunks taste on a bagel. Follow our adventure or pre-order a bottle at www.hagelswag.com.’
