FASHION QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Do you have a problem or a pressing fashion question? Simone answers a complicated fashion issue every week.
This week: what do you wear to a job interview?
Be prepared is one thing. Know what kind of job you are applying for and wear a look that fits. Take a look at the Instagram account of the person you are interviewing with and adjust your outfit accordingly.
A suit is very obvious, but maybe a bit boring. Unless you wear a very special blouse underneath. I would definitely recommend a jacket. And there are plenty of those; from an oversized boyfriend blazer to a shorter model. A blouse or T-shirt with nothing over it comes across as very casual, just like a cardigan by the way.
Midi dress €46-, Topshop
Blouse €46,- Topshop
Earring €350,- Aamaya by Priyanka
A pencil skirt (with well-fitting underwear, not unimportant) with a short loose jacket on top is always nice.
A shoe with a heel looks very nice and polished, but a nice flat fashionable lace-up shoe can also work very well. Do what suits you.
And just a little reminder, jeans, a denim jacket, a low neckline, a tiger print, a T-shirt with a quote, and sneakers are not what we wear to your job interview, okay? Remember: better overdressed than underdressed.
And you don't have to wear something new at all; what's more important is that you feel comfortable in your outfit. If your clothes don't fit well and you're constantly adjusting them, it can be very distracting.
Brogues €39.99 H&M
Bamboo shopper €1,800 Gucci via Net-a-Porter
Pencil skirt €24.99 h&m
Pumps €475,- Jimmy Choo via net-a-porter
It's always nice when you wear a special or striking accessory; it breaks the ice nicely and you'll be remembered well among the applicants. For example, a striking bracelet or a beautiful brooch.
I don't need to tell you that your clothes should be wrinkle-free, spotless, without hairs from your cat or dog, and definitely not inside out (May-Britt!) right?
And lastly: make sure you have the perfect bag. A bag that radiates that you've already got the job, for example, works wonders. If you don't have one, you can always borrow one from your most fashionable friend. I would love to hear if you found these tips helpful and of course if you got the job.
