Beauty

FOR 1000 DOLLARS
ON MAKE-UP (Part I)

Of course, it's all the fault of Dominique Samuels. And Victoria Beckham. Let's not forget her either. I left New York with a suitcase that had no new clothing items in it (except for the Frozen and Tinkerbell pajamas from the Disney Store at Times Square) because I, hooray where is my medal, bought nothing. But there was a thousand dollars worth of make-up in my carry-on. Seriously.

My beloved and everyone with a reasonable mind can stop reading now, but anyone who likes to look a bit nice can stay.

How did it come to this, you want to know? Well, it started in Capri where I was with Dominique and where I was amazed every day at how he looked so fresh and youthful after a few sips of wine (with me). His secret was Becca. And Tom Ford.

I took pictures of his complete make-up kit (I already told you he is one of the best make-up artists I know, right?) and if I were in New York, my first stop would be Sephora. So said, so done. Give me the Becca foundation and of course the under eye brightening corrector too. How could I possibly live without? And the eyebrow set, that too. And now that I was there, I also wanted that lip pencil from Bobbi Brown. I had seen it backstage at Tibi and for people who don't really like lipstick but want something, this is the thing. Then I saw the line from Pat McGrath and suddenly I needed her transparent lip gloss. Well, that was sold out, so I wanted the one from Milk (you know, from the famous Milk Studios on the border between Meatpacking and Chelsea where every celebrity has been photographed). Of course, it didn't matter what it cost.

At Sephora, they are not from yesterday, you should know, but very much about tomorrow, so they create a long line and maneuver you along a path with all sorts of things you had no idea existed and certainly didn't think you would ever need in this life, but now you can't imagine getting through the week without. So off it went, that brush cleaning set had to go in the basket too. And that sea salt spray and the shower foam from Molton Brown. Go!.

At the checkout, I casually paid 250 dollars. And that, dear friends, was just the beginning.

To be continued.
